Nine roads in Mansfield and Ashfield to be improved

Residents and road users in Mansfield and Ashfield can expect to see major improvements on nine roads across the district this month as part of Nottinghamshire County Council’s record £181.25 million Highway Capital Maintenance Programme.

Nottinghamshire County Council, working with its highways partner, Via East Midlands, has today published its month-ahead schedule of planned roadworks for August, highlighting five major resurfacing schemes and four machine lay patching operations to prepare roads for surface dressing to take place. These are in addition to the county-wide surface dressing programme with over 70 sites continuing throughout the summer.

Resurfacing will take place on the A6009 Rosemary Street and A38 Stockwell Gate junction in Mansfield, the B6020 Victoria Road in Kirkby in Ashfield, Columbia Street in Sutton in Ashfield, Station Road/Forest Street in Sutton in Ashfield and Heatherley Drive in Mansfield. In the meantime, machine lay patching will take place on the A617 MARR Fountaindale Way East in Mansfield, the B600 Willey Lane in Moorgreen, the B6014 Fackley Road/Tibshelf Road/Wild Hill in Fackley and the B6018 Mansfield Road/Park Lane/Church Hill in Selston and Bentinck.

August also sees the start of the county's micro asphalt surfacing programme. Micro asphalt is a preventative maintenance treatment that helps to extend the life of the highway. The process involves a thin bitumen mix being applied to create a new layer over the existing road surface. It is primarily used on residential roads in good structural condition and helps to prevent water ingress and reduce the formation of potholes and cracks, extending the life of the road. The schedule, which is part of the record investment seen in the 2026/2027 Highway Capital Maintenance Programme, outlines essential maintenance, resurfacing and infrastructure improvements across the district that aim to keep roads safe, reduce congestion and support long-term transport efficiency.

In addition to these works, patching teams, supported by the council’s new JCB Pothole Pro machines, will deliver patch repairs on another seven roads in the area. The teams are due to make improvements on Garibaldi Road in Mansfield, Norman Avenue and Fackley Road in Sutton in Ashfield, Grove Road in Church Warsop, Acacia Avenue in Annesley Woodhouse and Wilhallow Lane in Underwood, whilst the Pothole Pros will be at Windsor Drive in Warsop.

The works planned for August come after resurfacing was completed on seven roads last month, including the A617 Rainworth Bypass, the A6191 Ratcliffe Gate in Mansfield, the C85 Forest Road in Annesley Woodhouse, the C215 South Street in Hucknall, Tissington Avenue in Church Warsop, Abbey Road in Kirkby in Ashfield and the C40 Main Road in Underwood. Streetlight columns were also replaced in Jenny Becketts Lane in Mansfield, as well as Bagshaw Street and Poplar Drive in Pleasley.

Councillor Bert Bingham, Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment at NCC, said, “We're continuing to make significant progress on improving roads across Mansfield and Ashfield, with another nine major schemes planned for August alongside a range of additional repairs and preventative maintenance works.

"Our summer surface dressing programme is well underway and this month will see work start on micro surfacing, with over 150 roads due to be treated between now and the Autumn.

"This year's record highways investment has enabled us to tackle more roads than ever before, helping to create smoother, safer journeys for residents, businesses and visitors. While some temporary disruption is unavoidable, these improvements will deliver lasting benefits and help to keep Nottinghamshire moving well into the future.

Via will continue to run its year-round programme of preventative maintenance which includes cleansing highway gullies and drains, tree inspections and surface repairs.
