Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua: Could the heavyweight super-fight go to Principality Stadium? 2am start shouldn't be an issue

The Principality Stadium in Cardiff "would be delighted" to stage the Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury super-fight, and a main event start time as late as 2am should be no problem.

Joshua and Fury, both former heavyweight world champions, two of the biggest names in sport and fierce, long-time rivals, are due to box one another later this year.

Each must come through a warm-up bout first, which will take place within days of each other with Fury boxing Mariusz Wach on July 24 in Thailand and Joshua meeting Kristian Prenga on July 25 in Saudi Arabia.

While Joshua and Fury have signed to box one another in 2026, potentially in November, a venue is yet to be set amid speculation that the all-British heavyweight showdown could be held in the US.

If it is to take place in the UK, with Wembley Stadium a natural home for the fight, event organisers want the main event to begin at 2am to maximise its international viewership.

At present, local authorities in London have not confirmed whether this would be possible at Wembley Stadium, where there is normally an 11pm curfew for events.

But a start as late as 2am should not be prohibitive to staging Joshua vs Fury at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

There is a precedent for this. Joe Calzaghe's 2007 fight with Mikkel Kessler took place at the stadium that late at night, also in November as it happens.

"We'd be delighted to host this fight," a spokesperson for Welsh Rugby Union, which owns and operates Principality Stadium, told Sky Sports.

"We are very keen to attract more boxing to the stadium which has a rich history in the sport, enhanced by its closeable roof, unrivalled sight lines and unique city centre location."

Joshua has fought twice before at the Principality Stadium, against Carlos Takam and Joseph Parker. Historically, the all-British heavyweight super-fight between Lennox Lewis and Frank Bruno took place at the National Stadium in Cardiff, which preceded the Principality.

Given its existing schedule of events, if the Principality Stadium is to hold Joshua vs Fury in November, the 28th is available.
