Six arrested on suspicion of murder after man in 20s stabbed to death

Six men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the fatal stabbing of another man, who flagged down a police car with stab wounds.

The man, aged in his 20s, stopped a patrolling officer in London Road in Leicester at 10.45pm on Wednesday with injuries to his chest and stomach, police said.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance but died in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The investigation into the man's death led to the arrest of six men, including a 33-year-old, two aged 21, a 20-year-old, plus two teenagers aged 19 and 18, Leicestershire Police said.

One of the men has also been arrested on suspicion of supplying class B drugs.

Detective Inspector Lorna Granville, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime Team, said: "Following extensive enquiries, we have made a number of arrests today.

"The six men in custody will now be interviewed while we continue to gather information and evidence in relation to the incident."

Police said the man suffered multiple injuries, including three stab wounds, with a post-mortem examination confirming he had died because of his injuries.

The man is believed to have been stabbed in De Montfort Place, behind a number of properties in London Road.

Early on Friday, Leicestershire Police said that four people, two 52-year-old men and two 43-year-old women, had been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender as part of the investigation.

DI Granville added: "Following the death of the man, specialist trained officers have identified his next of kin and are supporting them. I would like to express my sincere condolences to them at this difficult time.

"This investigation remains ongoing with teams of dedicated officers and staff working to understand what has occurred and the events leading up to the injured man being found."

DI Granville said members of the public had provided "vital CCTV" and urged anyone with any information to contact police.

"I would like to thank people who live and work in the area for coming forward with information and assisting us, particularly in relation to capturing vital CCTV from last night," she said.

"If anyone has not yet contacted police but has information or was driving in the area last night between 10.30pm and 11pm, please come forward. Even the smallest detail could assist us in our investigation."
