Police given 40 potential names for woman found at Liverpool park inside bin bag

Police have been given more than 40 potential names for a woman whose body was found in a Liverpool park inside a bin bag.

A murder investigation was launched after the body of the woman, believed to be around 70-years-old, was found in Stanley Park by a member of the public at around 5.25pm on 28 August.

Detective superintendent Rachel Wilson said last month the body in the bin bag is believed to have been there for a number of weeks, despite the park's prominent location between Liverpool's Anfield Stadium and Everton's Goodison Park.

On Friday, officers said they have been given more than 40 potential names for the woman after more than 120 witnesses called in to offer information.

The woman is around 5ft 2ins tall and of slight build with strawberry blonde hair, wearing a pink Nike t-shirt.

Forensic tests were able to establish a DNA profile for the woman but there is no match on the UK national DNA database.

Officers added that it has not been possible to compare any dental records.

Senior investigating officer detective chief inspector John Fitzgerald said: "Today marks one week since a murder investigation was launched after the discovery of a woman's body in Stanley Park.

"Firstly I would like to thank everyone who has come forward with information. Every call, message and piece of information, no matter how small it may seem, could prove vital in helping us find the person responsible for this woman's death.

"So far, we have received over 120 reports from members of the public, including 40 suggested names, and we are incredibly grateful for the support shown to the investigation.

"We are determined to find out who the woman is, uncover what happened to her, and ensure those responsible are held accountable. We will continue to keep the public updated with any significant developments as the investigation progresses."
