Murder probe launched into pensioner's death as hunt for 'dangerous' missing man continues

A murder investigation is under way following the death of an 82-year-old woman in Glasgow.

The probe comes after Police Scotland launched a hunt for a "dangerous" missing man last seen in the Carntyne area of the city where the pensioner died.

Elizabeth Colligan was found injured on Cardowan Road at about 4am on Saturday. Emergency crews attended, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Inspector Gordon Walker said: "Our thoughts remain with Elizabeth's family and friends during this very difficult time.

"We are continuing to offer them our support as the investigation progresses.

"Officers are following a positive line of enquiry and work is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what has happened."

DI Walker said door-to-door enquiries are being carried out in the local area, as well as a detailed review of all available CCTV footage.

He added: "We are especially keen to speak with anyone who saw or heard anything around 4am on Saturday 18 April 2026."

The force earlier issued an appeal to track down Grant McKinnon, 30, who was last seen in the Cardowan Road area at the same time.

McKinnon was described as "dangerous", with those who spot him urged not to approach but to instead contact police immediately.

Chief Inspector Jon Watters added: "We understand that this will be concerning for the local community, and we want to reassure the public that extensive enquiries are under way.

"There will continue to be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days, and anyone with information or concerns is encouraged to speak with officers."
