Man questioned by police in Mohamed al Fayed sex abuse investigation

Detectives investigating the late former Harrods boss Mohamed al Fayed have questioned a man over allegations of human trafficking and facilitating rape.

The suspect, who is in his 60s, was interviewed under caution this month after 154 people came forward to report allegations of sex abuse against Al Fayed, the Metropolitan Police said.

The force said the man was questioned after three women in their 40s, 50s and 60s were interviewed under caution between 25 February and 5 March.

All four have been questioned on suspicion of aiding and abetting rape and sexual assault, assisting the commission of sexual offences and human trafficking for sexual exploitation.

Scotland Yard confirmed no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

A statement by the force said: "Specialist detectives leading one of the Met's largest and most complex investigations continue to investigate individuals who may have facilitated or enabled offending by Mohamed al Fayed.

"The investigation remains active and four suspects have now been interviewed under caution as part of the live investigation."

It added: "To date, 154 victims have come forward and reported allegations of sexual assault, rape, sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

"Over the past 18 months, officers have taken detailed accounts from victims and witnesses to build a comprehensive picture of the alleged offending."

Met commander Angela Craggs said: "While Al Fayed is no longer alive to face prosecution, we have always been determined to bring anyone who is suspected to have played a part in his offending to justice.

"We encourage anyone with information, whether you were directly affected by Mohamed al Fayed actions or have concerns about others who may have been involved or committed offences, to contact us."

The Met previously said officers had taken accounts from Al Fayed's accusers and other witnesses over the past 18 months.

The force also previously announced it was investigating individuals surrounding Al Fayed who could have enabled him to carry out more than 400 sexual misconduct crimes, which are claimed to have spanned decades between 1977 and 2014.

Al Fayed died aged 94 in August 2023.
