Actress Brenda Fricker - best known for her Oscar-winning role in My Left Foot -has died, her agent has said.
The 81-year-old won the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award in 1990 for her role as the mother of Irish writer and painter Christy Brown - played by Daniel Day Lewis - for which he also won Best Actor.
She was the first Irish actress to win an Oscar, and also starred in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
Phil Belfield, her agent, said she had died after a period of ill health.
In a statement to the Press Association, he said: "We will never see her like again and the world is lesser for the lack of her.
"I was honoured to know, love and work with her and she will always have a place in my heart and in the heart of so many film and TV fans the world over."
