Arrest after stabbing at a hotel used to house asylum seekers

A Somali man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after police were called to a hotel used to house asylum seekers.

Armed officers went to the Stanwell Hotel, just south of Heathrow Airport, at about 6.30pm to investigate reports of a stabbing.

The victim - a man in his 30s - hasn't been named, but Surrey Police said they were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The man arrested is in his 20s, and officers aren't looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Detective Superintendent Kate Hyder said: "Due to the nature of the report, armed officers were dispatched to the scene and assisted with the arrest.

"There remains a police presence in the area while we carry out initial enquiries.

"We understand this incident has caused concern within the local community, and I encourage you to speak to local officers."

Surrey Police has urged the public not to speculate about the incident on social media.
