UK weather: Festivalgoers face more rain as Met Office issues new warning

Festivalgoers and cricket fans face more wet weather on Saturday, as the Met Office issues a new warning for heavy showers and thunderstorms.

The yellow warning covers south-west England and parts of Wales, across the Midlands to the east of England, and is in place from midday until 9pm on Saturday.

People at the Reading and Leeds festivals as well as other live music events are likely to be affected by rain on Saturday.

Low pressure is pushing eastwards, which will lead to heavy showers.

The second test between England and Pakistan at Lord's has also been affected, with rain delaying the start and briefly stopping play.

The Environment Agency has also issued flood alerts for seven areas, including in the Midlands.

The Met Office has warned that some homes and businesses may be flooded, and that train and car journeys could take longer.

Some areas could have 15-25mm of rain in an hour, and 30mm in two to three hours, and may experience hail and lightning.

The Met Office previously posted on X: "Saturday starts on a wet and windy note as low pressure pushes in from the southwest.

"Some areas could see heavy, thundery downpours, bringing a risk of localised flooding.

"The best of the brighter weather will be across northern parts of the UK."

It comes after the UK experienced continued hot weather combined with extremely dry conditions.

The UK is on course for its hottest summer on record after five heatwaves, including a high of 38.1C in London.
