Teenager arrested on suspicion of murder after missing man found dead in Plymouth

A 19-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man reported missing was found dead in Plymouth.

Devon and Cornwall Police said Drew Perham, 24, was reported missing on Saturday after he failed to return from a night out on Friday.

The force said officers carried out searches and enquiries, which led to a scene guard being stationed on Soap Street, near Millbay Marina.

On Sunday afternoon, a body was located in the water. The force said that formal identification had not yet taken place, "but Drew's family have been informed of this development and are being supported by specially trained officers".

Following initial enquiries, police said a 19-year-old man was arrested earlier on Sunday on suspicion of attempted murder.

He has since been further arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

In a statement, Detective Superintendent James Dowler said that "all of our thoughts are with Drew's family and friends at this unbelievably difficult time".

"This investigation has been very fast-paced," he added, "and the community will be aware of the significant policing presence that has been in the Millbay area as our enquiries have progressed throughout the day.

"This will continue in the coming days."

DS Dowler also appealed for information, saying officers "are particularly interested in people who may have been in the Millbay area between 1am and 4am during the early hours of Saturday".
