Stalker who targeted James Bond producer given indefinite hospital order

A stalker whose decade-long campaign against James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli led to her selling her home has been handed an indefinite hospital order.

Daniel Wilson, 37, "forced" her to sell her family home of 20 years after he broke into it in 2016, and only her closest friends now know where she lives, Ms Broccoli said in a victim impact statement read to Southwark Crown Court on Monday.

Years later, on Valentine's Day last year, Wilson left threatening voicemails repeatedly telling her, "I've got murder on my mind", breaching a restraining order, the court heard.

He admitted stalking involving serious alarm or distress between 1 April 2022 and 14 February 2025, as well as two charges of breaching the ban on contacting Ms Broccoli, which was first imposed in 2017.

Wilson, of Lambeth, south London, also pleaded guilty to affray and criminal damage at Inner London Crown Court for using a hammer to break car and hospital windows in December 2023, causing £8,837 in damage.

He was handed an indefinite Section 37 hospital order with a Section 41 restriction to be served concurrently for each charge. Judge Christopher Hehir also passed a deprivation order for the hammer he used in 2023.

Ms Broccoli's son went to the same sixth form college as Wilson, but the men's friendship ended in 2009.

Wilson then developed an "enduring fixation" with the film producer that included "grandiose thoughts".

He believed she owed him money for a bronze bust of her father, Albert "Cubby" Broccoli - the man who first brought 007 to the screen in the 1960s.

The obsession led to Wilson breaking into her London home in 2016 and "causing a large amount of damage", the judge said.

Ms Broccoli's two friends inside had to "barricade themselves in a bedroom" while Wilson "barricaded himself in the house" before police arrived, he added. Ms Broccoli was not at home at the time.

"I'm in constant fear for my personal safety, always on edge and looking over my shoulder", Ms Broccoli told the court.

Wilson still experiences delusions about Ms Broccoli, which came out during the hearing, prompting the judge to cut the video link he was attending from in Wandsworth Prison.

He interrupted the judge's sentencing remarks to say: "What about the sculpture, Your Honour, what about the bronze sculpture?

"Let's cut the s*** mate. I made Barbara a sculpture.

"I gave bronze sculpture to Barbara... she didn't pay for it."

He then asked "how is that a delusion?" before the video was terminated.

In relation to the stalking, prosecutor Arabella MacDonald said hundreds of messages were sent over WhatsApp, text, email and voicemail, with the nature of these messages ranging from "strange to sexual to threatening".

Two expert witnesses on Wilson's psychiatric condition disagreed on whether he has bipolar affective disorder or schizoaffective disorder.

One told the court there is a "hair's breadth" between the diagnoses and the doctors agreed they can be treated in the same way.

The court heard his condition was exacerbated by his use of cannabis and crystal meth.

Ms Broccoli took over creative control of the James Bond franchise in 1995 when Pierce Brosnan took over the role of the UK's most famous secret agent.

She and her half-brother, Michael G Wilson, had produced the last nine Bond films including Casino Royale, Quantum Of Solace, Spectre and No Time To Die.
