Parents charged with murder of three-month-old son in north London

Two parents have been charged with the murder of their three-month-old baby.

Dounia Chetaouat, 32 and Abdelkader Essid, 44, have been accused of killing their young son at a home in North Finchley, north London.

The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to a report of an unresponsive baby boy at a property in Kingsway on 30 January.

When paramedics arrived, they found the youngster had suffered serious injuries and performed emergency first aid before he was rushed to hospital.

Chetaouat, of North Finchley, and Essid, of Finchley, were both arrested later that day on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

They were then charged with causing or allowing serious physical harm to a child on 2 February, and both were remanded in custody.

The baby died in hospital over two weeks later on 17 February.

Both parents were charged with murder and causing or allowing the death of a child the next day.

A post-mortem examination of the body is due to take place, Scotland Yard added.

Both suspects are expected to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on Monday.
