Tuesday, 31 March 2026 18:01

By Jenness Mitchell, Scotland reporter

A suspect has appeared in court charged with murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice following the death of a man in Glasgow.

David Smith, 49, was pronounced dead at a property in Glenraith Square at about 5.45pm on 17 March after concerns were raised about the occupant.

Joseph Dow, 38, was arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

The suspect appeared before Glasgow Sheriff Court on Tuesday, where he made no plea to the charges of murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

Dow, who has no fixed abode, was remanded in custody and is due back in court within the next eight days.

Mr Smith's family are currently being supported by specialist officers.

Police Scotland has launched Operation Altman and has set up an online portal for anyone with information to submit details directly to the inquiry team.
