Children injured after roof ripped off double-decker bus in Lancashire

Several children have been injured after the roof of a double-decker bus was ripped off when it passed under a bridge.

Police were called shortly after 12.30pm to a report that a school bus had struck a bridge on Spendmore Lane in Coppull, Lancashire.

Around 30 children were assessed by medical staff and eight were treated by paramedics for minor injuries.

An eight-year-old boy was taken to hospital with a "nasty cut to the head", Lancashire Police said.

The driver and two teachers who were also on board were unhurt, the force added.

The road was closed for around three hours while police dealt with the incident and for the recovery of the bus, but it has since reopened.

Police said in a post on social media: "We would like to thank everyone for their cooperation and support while we dealt with this incident which thankfully did not result in more serious injury."
