Appeal to find owner of lost urn containing 'human ashes' left on train

Police are looking to trace the owner of a tiny urn believed to contain human ashes that was left on a train between London and Aberdeen.

The small red urn is wrapped in purple and white artificial flowers and held in the arms of a teddy bear.

It is believed to have been left on an LNER service travelling from London King's Cross to Aberdeen and was subsequently handed into lost property on the train's arrival in Scotland.

British Transport Police (BTP) said that according to the information they have available, it was lost at some point in the last four months.

PC Gary Herning said: "The urn appears to contain human ashes or remains and will clearly be of enormous sentimental value to someone.

"Unfortunately, we have no further information on where the owner may have boarded or alighted during the journey.

"We're issuing the appeal in the hope that the individual or family concerned will reach out to us so that we can arrange its safe return."
