Singers Required for Mansfield & District Male Voice Choir
Do you think you could sing with the Mansfield & District Male Voice Choir? They are currently looking to recruit some new singers, both old and young voices to extend both their repertoire and their reach. The choir performs various times over the course of the year at a variety of functions and events. The choir rehearses every Tuesday evening at 7pm at St Augustine’s Church on Abbott Road in Mansfield. Mansfield Parkrun Is Back For 2022
If your news resolution was to get a little fitter why not join the Mansfield Parkrun which takes place every Saturday morning at 9am at the Manor Recreation Ground in Mansfield Woodhouse. Everyone is welcome to join in, you can walk, jog or run around the 5km route for free! Children and well behaved dogs are welcome, children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult and all dogs must be kept on a short leash. Parkrun asks that anyone wanting to take part arrives before 9am as it starts promptly at 9am. Late arrivals will not be allowed to join due to the registration process. Please note that there are no toilet facilities or changing rooms on site so make sure you arrive ready and raring to go! On Sunday 23rd January from 9am – 3pm Ian Wood returns with his first fantastic record fair of 2022. It’s taking place at the Grosvenor Rooms on Church Street in Sutton in Ashfield (formerly the Labour Club). Admission is just £1 per person and everyone is welcome. So whatever record you are looking for for your vinyl collection why not go along and take a look at what’s on offer? There’s a great selection covering all the decades and all the different genres. It’s a real treat for all music lovers!
IAN - Covid Bereavement Support Group
A new Covid Bereavement Support Group has been set up to help local people struggling with Covid loss and the impact it has had on them, their lives and their family. The new support group is called ‘IAN’ which stands for ‘It’s A New Normal’ and has been set up by Nicola Mousley in memory her husband Ian who sadly lost his battle with Covid in 2021. The group can be found on Facebook at facebook.com/groups/ian.covidbereavement, they can offer counselling services, a friendly chat and much more. Anyone who is suffering through Covid loss and struggling please don’t wait to contact them and get the help you need today. They are on hand to help.
Sutton Rambling Club
The Sutton Rambling Club are continuing running their program of rambles into the New Year. They have many different walks coming up over the next few weeks and months including a walk around Dovedale on 23rd January and Lumsdale on 6th February. They usually go on a ramble every 2 weeks, a full itinerary of all upcoming walks can be found on their website as below. A Skills coach sets off from the Staff of Life public house in Sutton in Ashfield at 9.15am then picks up at Bancroft Lane end on Stockwell Gate in Mansfield at 9.30am, it takes all walkers to the starting point and is on hand at the end of the day to bring you back to your original boarding point. The coach fair is £10, there is no need to pre-book your seat you can just turn up on the day but please be sure to bring a face mask for the journey. The club are always happy to welcome new members and offer a great day of healthy exercise along with great company and fabulous scenery. Marie Curie Needs You!
Marie Curie are looking for volunteers from our local area to join their fundraising team. Could you spare some time to help make sure people get the care and support they need at the end of their lives? The tasks are varied and can include supporting local fundraising groups, administrative tasks, coordinating local collections, distributing collecting boxes and much more. Vision West Notts Open Day
On Saturday 5th February from 10am – 1pm Vision West Notts College on Derby Road in Mansfield are holding an open day. There will be course tutors on hand with lots of information and help as well as the Careers Service Team and the Access to University Team (specifically for students aged 18 years and above). So, if you are struggling to figure out what to do next or how to get to your career goal why not go along and see what courses are available. There are courses to suit all ages and abilities. Whether it’s a change of direction you are after or just a few extra qualifications to assist you in your existing job, you can find out all you need to know at the open day. The Apprenticeship Team will also be on hand to showcase all the amazing opportunities that Vision West Notts can offer with local and national businesses. The Millside Hospital Radio based at Kings Mill Hospital in Sutton in Ashfield are always on the lookout for volunteers. The radio station broadcasts 24 hours per day across the wards of the hospital and they are also online. They provide a wide variety of entertainment for inpatients at the hospital. The station is run completely by volunteers and you could join them. Opportunities include presenting as well as other staff to work behind the scenes. Full training will be given. So, if you fancy getting into radio or just helping out behind the scenes why not contact them to join their fantastic friendly team and give them a helping hand.
