Fundraising Book Collection
Throughout the coming weeks Ken Gregory & Sons Funeral Directors on Portland Street in Kirkby in Ashfield are collecting books for their Branch Book Case. Last year they raised over £500 for charity by doing the same thing and this year they are hoping to beat that target. So, any books that you no longer want you can either drop them into their branch or call them on 01623 466610 to arrange a collection. Please help them to raise as much money as they can for local charities.
Warsop Old Hall Heritage Project Re-launches
The Warsop Old Hall Heritage Project initially started in March 2020 but due to Covid everything got put on hold until now. They have re-launching recently with on site activities starting again in May. These activities are planned to continue through until November (if circumstances permit) and include photogrammetry, GPR, on site excavations, graveyard surveys and more. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to work alongside archaeologists to learn more about Warsop. The onsite activities continue this week with the chance to join the archaeologists for a Magnetometry Survey of the grounds around the old hall. Charity Shop Re-open - Sale Now On
Jack Of All Hearts Brain Cancer fundraising shop at 10 Handley Arcade in Mansfield is now open again. They have lots of stock on offer. All ladies clothing on the ground floor will be on sale at £1, the majority of their Nemesis Now goods are also greatly reduced and there’s lots of bric-a-brac and other items for sale as well as men’s clothing and more. Why not go in and see what bargains you can get?? They are open 10am - 3pm Monday – Saturday. All profits go to helping people with brain cancer, please support them if you can.
Help Is Available To Residents Living In / Around The Ashfield Area
Do you or someone you know need help and you / they live in or near the Ashfield area? 2020 Vision Community Enterprise offers a number of public services to help members of the community. They particular want to help elderly and vulnerable residents but also offer help to people who have had their employment status affected by the Covid pandemic. They offer a wide range of services and could be just what you or your loved one needs. They offer meals at home, gardening services, help with benefit searches and forms, dog walking, befriending service, escorting service, help with job hunting and much more. They really are simply there for the benefit of the community. Weekly Church Services
The Arena Church on Leeming Street in Mansfield wants to remind everyone that they are still open and they are still holding weekly services every Sunday but these have moved online. Everyone is welcome to join them. There are two services each Sunday, one at 10.30am and one at 6pm. They are looking to bring hope, joy and give courage to everyone facing these difficult times. Online Book Fair
On Saturday 29th May from 12noon onwards the PBFA monthly online book fair is happening. There will be many books on sale including second hand and antiquarian with prices to suit all. Monthly Car Boot Sale
On the last Sunday of every month there is a car boot sale happening in the car park of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Albert Street in Mansfield Woodhouse. The sale is open to the public from 9am – 12pm, entrance is just 50p per person. Pitches are £5 per spot and can be booked by calling Sue on 07584 411262, set up starts at 8am. Focus Point Community Support Network
Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic the Focus Point in Mansfield Woodhouse have been arranging for their friendly team to help and support local vulnerable, isolated, lonely or unwell people with things such as collecting prescriptions / medicines, getting shopping or just having a chat or putting the bins out for them. They offer lots of different support. The service they offer is free of charge to everyone and is available all of the time. Pleasley Pit Visitors Centre – Volunteers Needed
Could you spare a few hours each week to help keep the Pleasley Pit Visitors Centre running?? They are mainly looking for help within the cafe whether it is serving customers, washing pots or cooking. They are also looking for other volunteers to assist with the nature reserve and the conservation of the site. There are all kinds of opportunities available. The Millside Hospital Radio based at Kings Mill Hospital in Sutton in Ashfield is currently looking for volunteers. The radio station broadcasts 24 hours per day across the wards of the hospital and they are also online. They provide a wide variety of entertainment for inpatients at the hospital. The station is run completely by volunteers and they are currently looking for new radio presenters and other station staff to work behind the scenes. Full training will be given.
