Local Theatre For All

There are a variety of shows on over the next week or two at our local theatres. Mansfield Palace Theatre has An Evening with Sue Pollard on 21st June, Bye Bye Baby (Jersey Boys Tribute) on 22nd June, Bad Girls from 29th June – 2nd July (performed by the Ripley & Alfreton Musical Theatre Company), Housewives On Holiday on 5th July and many more. The Royal Centre at Nottingham has performances from Dionne Warwick on 21st June, Dreamboats & Petticoats from 21st – 25th June, Gladys Knight on 23rd June, Adam Ant on 25th June, Roger Daltrey on 29th June, Singin’ In The Rain (the musical) from 5th – 9th July plus plenty of others. The Listening Post

On the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 7pm – 8pm you will find the Listening Post vehicle parked up near the sundial on Portland Square in Sutton in Ashfield where they can offer food, drink and conversation to anyone wanting to join them. They occasional can offer clothing and toiletries too. Their services are free of charge to all. They have also just started a community project where they meet at The Enjoy Café next to Wilko’s in Sutton in Ashfield on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 10am – 12pm to make blankets for those in need. They can provide tuition and all the materials you will need. Why not go along and have a chat or help out?   

 

Weekly Veterans Group Restarts

A local Veterans Group holds weekly social meetings every Tuesday between from 10am – 12pm. The meetings are held at MIND at 14 St John Street in Mansfield (entrance at the back of the building). The group has been set up to enable like minded people to get together and discuss any issues they may be having or simply to just go along, have a cuppa and a chat with a fellow veteran. Veterans of all ages are welcome and it’s free to attend.

 

Can You Sing?

The Forest Singers are looking for new members to join their group, anyone who can sing and wants to join likeminded people is to go along to one of their upcoming rehearsals. They rehearse every Thursday evening from 7.30pm – 9pm at St Lawrence’s Church Hall in Mansfield.  

 

Online Book Fair

On Friday 24th June from 12pm onwards the PBFA monthly online book fair is happening. There will be many books on sale including second hand and antiquarian with prices to suit all. You can also find prints, manuscripts, posters and lots more on sale too and you will buy direct from the dealers. Recycle Café

On the last Friday of each month Jigsaw Support Scheme hold their Recycle Café and everyone is invited to go along and join this friendly practical support group. There is up-cycling, repairs, a jumble sale, tea bar and refreshments too. You can also get advice and talk to like minded people whilst you are there. It is held at the Sacred Sound Healing & Arts Centre on Kirkland Avenue in Mansfield. The next one is on Friday 24th June running from 10.30am – 12.30pm. Mansfield Parkrun

If you have promised yourself to get a little fitter this year why not join the Mansfield Parkrun which takes place every Saturday morning at 9am at the Manor Recreation Ground in Mansfield Woodhouse. Everyone is welcome to join in, you can walk, jog or run around the 5km route for free! Children and well behaved dogs are welcome, children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult and all dogs must be kept on a short leash. Parkrun asks that anyone wanting to take part arrives before 9am as it starts promptly at 9am. Late arrivals will not be allowed to join due to the registration process. Please note that there are no toilet facilities or changing rooms on site so make sure you arrive ready and raring to go! Platinum Jubilee Concerts

There are 2 concerts happening to mark the Queen’s’ Platinum Jubilee, they will feature the Dukeries Singers, The Forest Singers, The Edwinstowe Handbell Ringers and a magical piano duet and solo singer too. The first concert was earlier in the month but the second concert is being held on Saturday 25th June at 7pm at the Jubilee Hall, Wellow Road in Ollerton. Tickets for this concert are available from Margaret on 07896 491314. All tickets are £7 each but include light refreshments. You can also book online by visiting the Eventbrite website. West Notts College Open Day

Are you, or someone you know, a school leaver looking to study an apprenticeship, A-levels or a practical, technical or professional course? If so why not go along to the West Notts College open day on Saturday 25th June where there will be tutors, careers advisors and a support team on hand to offer advice and help you decided on your next steps. Sutton Rambling Club

The Sutton Rambling Club are continuing running their program of rambles throughout 2022. They have many different walks coming up over the next few weeks and months including a walk around Lathkill Dale in the Peak District on 26th June followed by Stanage Edge, again in the Peak District,  on 10th July. They usually go on a ramble every 2 weeks, a full itinerary of all upcoming walks can be found on their website along with details of some special evening walks they have happening throughout the summer months. For the Sunday rambles, a Skills coach sets off from the Staff of Life public house in Sutton in Ashfield at 9.15am then picks up at Bancroft Lane end on Stockwell Gate in Mansfield at 9.30am, it takes all walkers to the starting point and is on hand at the end of the day to bring you back to your original boarding point. The coach fair is £10, there is no need to pre-book your seat you can just turn up on the day but please be sure to bring a face mask for the journey. The club are always happy to welcome new members and offer a great day of exercise along with great company and fabulous scenery. Race Night

On Friday 1st July from 8pm onwards there is a race night happening on the big screen at the Triple S Snooker Club in Skegby. To increase your winnings on the night why not buy a horse, they are available now from behind the bar at the Triple S, all bets n the night will be £1 each. Competitive races on the big screen along with loads of fun, what more could ask for? Just head down to the Triple S on Mansfield Road in Skegby on Friday 1st July and join in the fun.

 

Edwinstowe Summer Fayre

On Saturday 9th July from 10am – 1pm the Edwinstowe Summer Fayre returns for 2022 and promises to be bigger and better than ever. There’s lots of fun for everyone to enjoy including free face painting, an ice cream van, craft stalls, a fair, craft activities, market stalls, balloon modelling and much more. Plus there will be a surprise visit from Robin Hood and Maid Marian! Everyone is welcome to attend, admission is free. Please note that parking is restricted on site so please park courteously in the local area.

 

Fund Raising Concert

On Saturday 23rd July starting at 7.30pm the Mansfield & District Male Voice Choir are performing in concert alongside the Joseph Whittaker School Jazz Band & the Redhill Academy Swing Band. It promises to be fun filled night with lots of music and singing of all kinds to entertain all ages. The concert is happening at St John’s Church on St John Street in Mansfield, doors open at 6.45pm. All proceeds from the event are being donated to the National Association of Blood Bikes which is a charity that delivers life saving blood, organs and equipment on motorbikes to and from hospitals throughout the UK. Tickets are available from any choir or band member or you can call 01623 455373 or 01623 230023. Everyone is invited to go along and help them raise vital funds for this life saving charity whilst enjoying a wonderful evening out.
