The Early Riser
The Early Riser
There is some old saying about being up early is ‘the best part of the day’. I would have to agree with that, it’s perhaps my favourite time of the week. Before 8:00 on a Saturday morning, is when I get to really know what’s happening in people’s lives. It’s an odd time of the weekend, where most of the world is still asleep, but you get this amazing interaction with people who like you are up bright an early.
On the way in I usually pop to grab a coffee and paper, and being a creature of habit you tend to see a lot of the same faces. From the guy in the papershop who used to be confused as to why I’d be buying 8 different papers, to the lady at the drive-through who always has a massive smile and something funny to say. I’m not sure how she manages to be so cheery that early, I can only assume it’s the caffeine!
The early riser between 7 & 8 never fails to amaze me. At least one person per week will be doing something random, and want to give me a call to tell me all about it. Yes, we’ve got plenty of people at work, which reassures me I’m not the only one working (if you can call this work), or up early with the kids cursing the lack of weekend lie-in. It’s the random Saturday adventures that always raise a laugh:
“Morning Si, I’m off today in a hot air balloon ride, and I don’t like heights”
“Hey Si, dog got me up early, so I’ve taken him for a walk and now I’m giving him a bath”
“Morning, I’m up early getting into a spiderman outfit to surprise my little lad for his birthday”
It probably goes to prove how nosey I am, but it’s the greatest time of the weekend, waiting for the world to gradually wake up & laughing along with the people who are already up and making the most of it!
