Sports Hall To Reopen At Joseph Whitaker School Following £50,000 Refurbishment
On Monday Chris Adcock, GB International elite Badminton player, will officially open the re-furbished sports hall at The Joseph Whitaker School. Chris’ Dad, Paul, has been a real driving force behind the bid and has supported the school throughout.
The event will see a group of students receiving coaching from badminton leaders as well as a display from Chris. We are delighted that a number of local councillors, governors, Headteachers and officials from Badminton England will be available for the opening. There will also be representation from the school council and a number of the community users who use the facility on a regular basis.
The refurbishment was funded via a £50,000 grant from Badminton England, alongside a contribution from the school. The money has funded a new floor, re-decoration throughout the building, new doors, new lighting and post / net systems. The partnership’s aim is to increase the numbers participating in badminton both in school and in the community. In the short period since opening the facility has been used by both elite players and beginners. The surface is far more suitable for a range of sports and is the same surface that is used in national badminton centres.
David Bell, Headteacher, said: ‘We are incredibly grateful to Badminton England for investing in our sports facilities and this shows their faith in us as a school that values sport and physical education. Our commitment to community sport is long standing and we strive to provide the best facilities possible. I would also like to thank Sue Harpham, Jane Atherton and Rob Watson, Joseph Whitaker School staff, for their hard work in developing the bid and their ongoing promotion of badminton’.
