Spectacular Rose double grabs FA Cup win for Stags

6th November 2017

Mansfield Town are into the hat for the Second Round draw of this season's Emirates FA Cup after avoiding a potential upset at non-league Shaw Lane on Saturday.

Danny Rose struck two high quality late goals, a header followed by a scissor kick, as the Stags beat their Evo-Stik League hosts, 3-1, at Sheerien Park.

Krystian Pearce had given Steve Evans' side a first-half lead but they were pegged back before the interval before they dominated the second period that also saw Jacob Mellis' spot kick saved.

All the talk after the game, that had been broadcast live on BT Sport, was about the two goals for Rose that took his season's tally to ten.

The 23-year-old frontman, who was born and still lives five minutes away from Shaw Lane's ground in Barnsley, told Mansfield 103.2: "I just got up for the first one, the header, and I saw it fly into the top corner which was good.

"For the second, I was just about to go up for a header again but I was a bit too far out so I just tried something a little bit different.

"It's nice to get the two goals, it's a shame to do it against a club that lives so close to me but that's football and we'll go into the next round and we'll look forward to it."

Evans added that Rose deserved the headlines, saying: "I don't think you could be wish to be a young striker like Danny Rose and score two better goals.

"If you're watching the best of the Premier League, players like Harry Kane, if he scores two like that this weekend then we'll be watching those over and over again."

Mansfield are ball 19 in the Second Round draw whilst Notts County, who beat Bristol Rovers 4-2, are number 27.

The three non-league sides to beat Football League oppositions in the First Round - Boreham Wood, Maidstone and Oxford City - are ball numbers 18, 29 and 20, respectively.
