Sherwood Forest Hospitals Taken Out Of Special Measures
Following the recent inspection undertaken by the Care Quality Commission, it has been announced that the Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust, who have Kings Mill Hospital under its umbrella, have been taken out of Special Measures and rated as “Good” for safety.
The Trust was placed in special measures in 2013 following concerns over mortality rates, and in 2015 the CQC also identified specific issues with the trusts management of sepsis.
The trust have worked hard to improve and as the report was made public earlier today (9###sup/sup### November) Sherwood Forest Hospitals is now among the best performing in the country for the issues which were previously raised.
Executive Medical Director Doctor Andy Haynes said “It’s a fantastic report for staff at the trust, the overall rating is a significant improvement and particularly for the safety ratings which have improved from inadequate to good – that’s a major achievement for both the clinical and management team at the trust”
“I think it’s an accumulation of a lot of changes over an 18 month period and the stable leadership that we’ve had now for the last year. Effectively we’ve engaged in support of staff to take ownership of their own clinical areas and that’s created and generated a cultural shift really. Staff now understand and aspire to good care and we see this as a really good step on to our journey – we want to go beyond this, we want to become outstanding.”
