Rio comes to Mansfield to celebrate local Paralympic glory
Mansfield will celebrate the success of local Paralympic swimmers Ollie Hynd MBE and Charlotte Henshaw in a Rio themed day of entertainment in Mansfield Market Place on Saturday 24th September.
The carnival spirit will be in town from 11am to 2pm with samba drummers, jiu jitzu and capoeira demonstrations, and a Brazilian dance workshop.
Ollie and Charlotte, who are coached in Mansfield, will be available to sign autographs on the day.
Ollie returns from Rio with a Gold medal from the 400m Freestyle S8 and a Silver from the 100m Backstroke S8. Charlotte achieved a Bronze medal in the SB6 100m breaststroke.
Local schools and nurseries have been invited to make posters to congratulate Ollie and Charlotte. These will then be presented to the pair on stage at the event.
Any contributions should be delivered to the Civic Centre by 5pm on Thursday 22nd September.
Young visitors to the event will also be able to take home their own Rio memento in a medal making craft activity provided by Mansfield Museum.
The Convent Garden Street entertainer will be there to wow the crowds with a unicycle act.
Families can also try their hand at an Olympic and Paralympic sport with mini tennis sessions.
Executive Mayor, Kate Allsop said: “We are so proud of what Ollie and Charlotte have achieved and hope lots of people come into town to congratulate them. There will be plenty of carnival fun for the whole family and a chance to have a go at some great activities.”
