News In Focus – Homelessness Air Date – Thursday 27th October 6-7pm
This week’s News In Focus puts the issues of Homelessness under the spotlight, following growing concern at of a lack of support in Mansfield from charities such as Framework who saw their Mansfield centre close earlier this year due to a lack of funding.
The program explores the issue of homelessness and includes a feature length interview with Framework Chief Executive Andrew Redfearn, a look at the Bishop Street Methodist Church Soup Kitchen and more about the CEO Sleepout, a national charity who challenge business directors such as Mansfield Town FCs Carolyn Radford to switch the boardroom for the streets to promote homelessness.
The CEO Sleepout Charity was set-up three years ago by businessman Andy Preston “The problem of homelessness has been growing over the last seven or eight years for different reasons and it just seemed to me that perhaps the older more established charities needed something new to come into the mix and try to mobilise some new support from businesses.”
Mansfield Town Chief Executive Carolyn Radford recently took part in a sleepout at Notts County FC’s Meadow Lane ground and shared why she wanted to take part “It’s really not a choice homelessness and I think there’s a lot of confusion that people chose to be on the street, that’s not the case whatsoever. We really want to make a difference, you’ve got to look at the weather at the minute, things are changing and it’s getting very cold outside – there are people sleeping rough on the streets of Nottinghamshire and it’s not a good thing”
