New book to discuss Mansfield past and present
Mansfield is set to feature in a new book marking 80 years since a major political protest. In 1936, the Jarrow Marchers walked from the North-East to London to fight the unemployment the town had suffered. Now, writer Stuart Maconie is retracing their steps, to see how Britain has changed over the decades.
As Stuart followed their route through Mansfield, and stopped off at the Museum, he said “there are some similarities between 1936 and now. We're going through changeable times now, as they were then, and protesting seems to be on the rise at the minute. But I'm trying to find out how effective those protests are.”
The book, which should feature Stuart's thoughts on Mansfield past and present, is due to go on sale by next summer.
