Mansfield and Sutton League of Friends raise £33k for new equipment

King’s Mill Hospital’s Intensive Critical Care Unit (ICCU) is to benefit from a hi-tech ultra sound machine thanks to the League of Friends raising funds in their charity shops, holding fundraising events and receiving donations from the community.

A total of £33k has been raised, which has allowed for the Trust’s ICCU to purchase the much needed equipment. The department will be presented with the machine on Wednesday 4 October at 12pm in the Community Hub at King’s Mill Hospital.

Consultant on ICCU, Doug Holden, who put forward the bid for the machine, explains what a difference the equipment will make to patients: “The new ultrasound machine will be a great addition to the unit, as in some cases it will allow us to make a diagnosis without using any harmful radiation, which is obviously of great benefit to our patients.”

“We will be able to see high resolution images in real time and we can store the digitised images for review and analysis, which will help with patient diagnosis. The machine can also be brought over to the patient, due to it being portable, which will enable us to diagnose them without causing any discomfort by moving them. I’m looking forward to it being used and our patients benefitting from the new equipment.”

Chairman of the League of Friends (Mansfield and Sutton), Barbara Joule added: “We are so pleased that we have managed to raise enough funds to secure this much needed piece of equipment for King’s Mill’s ICCU. I’m sure it will make a real difference to a lot of patients, which is why we fundraise. Thank you to everyone who has donated at either one of our shops or events, it really does make a difference.”
