Man Jailed After Crashing Into Mansfield Takeaway

10th May 2018
News, Mansfield

A man has been sentenced to 14 months in prison after he failed to stop during routine vehicle checks in Mansfield.

Jamie Wilson, of Alcock Avenue, Mansfield, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday (4 May 2018) having pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

The 32-year-old was arrested and charged after his car collided into the Canton Takeaway shop in Ravansdale Road at around 12.30pm on Tuesday 13 March 2018. He had been pursued by officers from Eakring Road after driving through their traffic checks.

As well as the prison sentence, he was also disqualified from driving for three years and seven month with a re-test requirement.

Police Constable Phil Broughton said: "Clearly Wilson had something to hide when he failed to stop for our checks and it is completely irresponsible to drive in this dangerous manner which could have resulted in serious injury or worse. We hope this sends the message out that driving offences are taken extremely seriously because of the risk they pose to innocent members of the public. We will continue to carry out regular checks any drivers found to breaking the law will be dealt with accordingly."
