Green and Whites aim for last home hurrah

3rd March 2017

Nottingham will be looking to end their Greene King IPA Championship home season on a high, as they prepare to face Bedford Blues on Sunday, with a 3pm kick-off at The Bay.

With the loss of their final, April home fixture against the now expelled London Welsh, Ian Costello's side will be looking to give their home support something to cheer about, with three away fixtures to follow, before the end of the regular season.

After making their debuts from the bench at Richmond last Saturday, 20 year-old, dual-reg props Will Stuart and Owen Hills will make their first starts for the Green and Whites, with Ben Morris moving into the second row.

After fully recovering from a recent injury, captain Matt Everard returns to the back row, alongside Jordan Coghlan and Josh Poullet.

Darryl Veenendaal is selected ahead of Murray McConnell at scrum half, whilst Tiff Eden replaces Gearoid Lyons at fly half, with Lyons now serving a three-week suspension for tip tackling an opponent in last weekend's defeat at the Richmond Athletic Ground.

On the wings, James Stephenson and David Williams both make comebacks, with Joe Cobden and Calum Hall both sidelined through injury.

On the bench, Harry Morley, Ben Hooper, Rob Langley and Lawrence Rayner all return to first team action.

With both teams' play-off hopes now all but extinguished, both sides will be playing for pride on Sunday, whilst trying to reverse recent their recent poor league form, with the Blues having won only one out of their last five games.

In the previous meeting between the two sides this season, two fantastic comebacks and a last-gasp Toby Freeman try, ensured the Green & Whites secured their third victory on the bounce, as they came out on top of an epic encounter at Goldington Road, winning by a 36-34 scoreline.

Team to face Bedford Blues: 15) George Worth, 14) David Williams, 13) Oli Evans, 12) Charlie Thacker, 11) James Stephenson, 10) Tiff Eden, 9) Darryl Veenendaal, 1) Owen Hills, 2) Jimmy Stevens, 3) Will Stuart, 4) Tom Holmes, 5) Ben Morris, 6) Jordan Coghlan, 7) Matt Everard (C), 8) Josh Poullet. Replacements: 16) TJ Harris, 17) Harry Morley, 18) Ben Hooper, 19) Rob Langley, 20) Shane Buckley, 21) Murray McConnell, 22) Lawrence Rayner.
