Nottingham Forest rounded off 2016 with a 3-1 defeat at Championship Title Favourites Newcastle United, where yet another red card played a big part in defeat, Forest’s 12th loss of the season.

Forest were under the cosh from the off and were behind after just four minutes when a Matt Ritchie free kick deflected in.

Nicolao Dumitru pulled the visitors level with a volley on the half-hour to send the teams into the second half on level terms, Matt Mills was then booked twice in the space of thirty seconds to get his marching orders – Newcastle taking the one man advantage in their stride as a brace from Dwight Gale, sealed the win for Newcastle, leaving Forest in trouble.
