Cuckney aim to get back on track in the NPL

3rd August 2017

August has arrived and the Notts Premier League enters into its seventeenth round of fixtures on Saturday.

First up, at Station Lane, Farnsfield host Radcliffe-on-Trent.

The home side will be looking to bounce back after their bruising defeat at the hands of Kimberley; they picked up just three points in that game which meant they stay in tenth spot, but their lead over Attenborough shrank slightly to fifteen points.

Radcliffe arrive on the back of a good recent run of form which has seem them rise to 5th place; a position they seem to be making their own.  Their draw with Attenborough means they are unbeaten in their last four games and they will be looking to make that five here.

Dan Mason can make it 2,000 NPL runs with a score of fifteen.

At Newdigate Street it’s third versus fourth as Kimberley Institute welcome the West Indian Cavaliers.

Kimberley’s win over Farnsfield kept them seven points ahead of the visitors, but their recent home form has been poor with no wins and two defeats in their last three matches. This game presents an opportunity to end that run.

Dominic Brown can make it 1,500 runs on home soil with a score of 36.

The Cavaliers arrive unbeaten in their last three matches, including their five wicket win over Caythorpe last time out.

They will be looking to make it back to back wins here and switch places with Kimberley in the process.

Akhil Patel needs just six runs for 500 against his former club and Kafeel Shafique two wickets for 150 league strikes.

At the Fieldings Mansfield Hosiery Mills entertain league leaders Cuckney.

The Millers held onto seventh place after their draw with Plumtree, but just one win in their last eight games has seen them fall adrift of the sides above them and Hucknall are now just three points behind them in eighth.

George Hadfield needs just a single for 500 NPL runs, Joe New four runs for 500 at home and Matt New can do a double; twenty-two would see him to 4,000 league runs and three wickets would mean 100 at home.

Cuckney were only able to gain six points in their draw with Hucknall which means their lead over Plumtree is down to seventeen points; they will be looking to bounce straight back from what was only their second setback in the league this season.

James Hawley needs twenty runs for 5,500 in the NPL and skipper Nick Langford can make it 500 runs against his former club with a score of thirty.

At Lady Bay Notts Academy host Hucknall.

The Academy boys picked up another draw on Saturday away at Welbeck making it three in their last five games; a first win since June will be on their minds here. Bettering Radcliffe’s points tally by three would lift up one spot from sixth.

Lyndon James needs thirty for 500 NPL runs and Liam Patterson-White two wickets for fifty league victims.

Hucknall’s winning-draw at Cuckney means they have picked up 45 points from their last three games against the league’s top three; their haul has put them well clear of the sides battling relegation and they could even move out of eighth if they better Mansfield Hosiery Mills’ points tally by four points.

Vinay Landa and Scott Harris need thirty-eight and forty respectively for 500 league runs and their joint leading wicket-taker Suhail Ahmed needs one wicket for 50 in the NPL.

At Bradmoor Lane Plumtree welcome Attenborough.

Plumtree’s draw with Mansfield Hosiery Mills, as noted, saw them trim Cuckney’s lead by eleven points and they will be looking to end their sequence of three games without a win here.

A number of players can make it to milestones in this game; Matt Wood and Sam Storey can reach 1,000 runs at home with scores of four and twenty-six respectively and Olly Soames and last week’s centurion Matt Milnes can make it 500 runs at home with scores of thirteen and nineteen.

Attenborough have been picking up points over recent weeks and are unbeaten in their last three; including their draw at Radcliffe on Saturday. They did however lose ground on Welbeck just above them making them eleven points adrift of safety going into this game – can they pull a rabbit out of the hat and get a result here?

The final game of the day sees two sides battling to avoid relegation meet at Sookholme where Welbeck host Caythorpe.

The home side managed to gain one point on Attenborough after their draw with the Academy, but they still sit precariously in eleventh spot after five games without a win. They will be on the hunt for a positive result here to add to their miserly tally of two wins all season.

Richard Stroh can do a double here with five runs and three wickets to take him to 1,000 runs and 50 wickets on home turf.

Caythorpe arrive on the back of three games without a win after their defeat at the hands of the Cavaliers, but they are nineteen points clear of Attenborough in ninth spot; they will view this as a great chance to pull further clear with a result here.

Olly Clarke needs twenty-eight runs for 500 in the NPL.
