Community Orchard To Be Set Up In Pleasley
A group of local volunteers are setting up a community orchard in Pleasley, and are appealing for volunteers to help get the job done.
The group took a delivery of over 200 trees this week and need to get the trees planted quickly, in order to stop them from deteriorating. The planned orchard, is intended to benefit locals for years to come, as it will invite locals to come along and help themselves to the fresh fruit the tree’s will eventually grow.
Joe Bonsor is one of the volunteers and said “We found land in Pleasley which belongs to Mansfield District Counil, and they said we could utilise the land for the community – it’s on Teversal Avenue. We’ve got about 150 trees to plant, apples, pears, plums and so on – eventually we’re hoping to get bee-hives up there – we want the community to get involved and eventually when things are right, they can go and take whatever (products) they want.”
Anyone wishing to volunteer to finish getting the trees planted, can contact Joe on 07714 637 527
