Clean up volunteers' efforts rewarded

Schools, businesses, voluntary groups and individuals were presented with awards and certificates on Friday for their involvement in International Clean Up Mansfield Day 2017.

The awards ceremony took place at Mansfield Palace Theatre on Friday 29 September following the successful fifth annual clean-up day in June.

The winners were:

Outstanding Achievement Award – Oak Tree Conservation Group

Outstanding School Award – Asquith Primary and Nursery School

School Innovation Award – St Edmund’s Primary School

Community Award – Sherwood Court Gardening Club

Friends’ Groups Award – Friends of Forest Road Park

Business Innovation Award – The Foxglove, KFC, Costa in Forest Town

Town Centre Business Award – Swinton Insurance

The clean-up event attracted the support of more than 60 groups and individuals both here and in Mansfields abroad - making it the biggest and best yet.

Communities in Mansfield, Texas; Mansfield, Pennsylvania; Mansfield, Minnesota; Mansfield, Massachusetts; and Mansfield in Victoria, Australia, joined in with this year's event.

Deputy Mayor Mick Barton and Cllr Andrew Tristram, Portfolio Holder for the Environment and Wellbeing at Mansfield District Council, presented the awards and certificates.

Cllr Barton said: "It has been brilliant seeing local businesses, schools and community groups, council staff and members along with the executive, all involved this year.”

"It was also a great pleasure to see so many people at the Palace Theatre to accept their certificates. It is fantastic to see so many young children and people with learning and physical disabilities getting involved. This has surpassed all previous years, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved.  I look forward to working with everyone again next year."

Cllr Tristram said: “These awards are to celebrate and recognise all the hard work involved in the International Clean Up Mansfield Day event. It’s great to see a diverse range of community groups involved.” Cllr Tristram added: “I’d like to thank everyone who gave up their time to take part. Next year’s clean-up will take place on 8 June – let’s make it our biggest yet.”
