An Evening With Steve Evans Goes Down A Storm At Stags
Mansfield Town supporters were treated to a range of stories last night, as manager Steve Evans was the guest in “An Evening With” held in the clubs 1861 suite.
There wasn’t a spare seat in the house as the Stags boss answered supporter’s questions and shared numerous antidotes about his managerial career, and relationship with assistant boss Paul Raynor.
The duo have been likened to the modern-day Clough and Taylor and, when quizzed about who his favourite players were to watch when he was younger, the popular scot couldn’t resist but recall a short tale about Raynor during his playing career.
“(Most) Stags fans wouldn’t know the guy, but it was a player called Jimmy Johnson for Glasgow Celtic who was a little winger and was someone who could beat a team on his own – that was as a school boy growing up, but you can’t help but laugh when I watch the DVD of Glenn Hoddle stick the ball between Paul Raynor’s legs, wave to the crowd… and they score from his pass!”
Evans faced questions on of he’d be given a ride in Chairman John Radford’s helicopter and told an amusing tale about his time at Crawley, which led to never setting foot in a helicopter again – the multi-promotion winner also was quizzed on his managerial career and recalled how, if it wasn’t for Raynor’s son, the duo may never have taken the Rotherham United job.
The full interview will be available via the clubs official website shortly
