Saturday Sports Round-Up
Mansfield Town have stormed to a magnificent 4-0 victory on the opening day.
Kyle Perry struck twice whilst Rob Duffy and Jake Speight also got on the scoresheet to claim the biggest win in the Blue Square Premier.
It wasn't the most comprehensive victory locally though as a Lee Hughes hat-trick helped Notts County to a 5-0 home win over Bradford City in League Two.
Gary Teale struck with three minutes remaining to give Derby County a winning start in the Championship, 2-1 at home to Peterborough United.
And, Nottingham Forest drew 0-0 at Reading.
Alfreton Town were 3-0 winners at Farsley Celtic in Blue Square North whilst Glapwell completed their pre-season with a 3-1 friendly victory at Harrogate Railway.
All our three KoolSport NCEL sides lost their opening home matches - Rainworth Miners Welfare were beaten 4-0 by Winterton Rangers, Shirebrook Town lost 3-0 at the hands of Armthorpe Welfare and Teversal were on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline against Bottesford Town.
Blackwell Miners Welfare lost 5-1 at Dunkirk in the East Midlands Counties League.
In LV County Championship cricket, Notts were held to a draw at Sussex, as they failed to bowl out their hosts in time and Derbyshire's match at Surrey looks to be heading to the same result as they go into the final day tomorrow.
In motorracing, Ollerton's Chris Walker has finished ninth in Race 1 of Round 8 of the MCE British Superbike Championships.
He'll be disappointed after finishing seventh fastest in qualifying but there's two more races tomorrow at Brands Hatch for him to pick up points.
And, Mansfield golfer Oliver Wilson begins his third round at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational later this evening - he starts five shots behind leader Padraig Harrington. |
