Monday Action: Play-Off Heartache For Stags

There were tears at the One Call Stadium on Monday afternoon as Mansfield Town bowed out of the Blue Square Bet Prem play-offs.

On what was a nervy afternoon, a Matty Blair header in the second half of extra-time was the only goal as York went through to face Luton in the final at Wembley, 2-1 on aggregate.

The Stags also had Ritchie Sutton sent off for a second yellow card shortly after the goal to halt any hope of a fightback.

After the game, captain Adam Murray and boss Paul Cox were amongst many who were in tears having come so close to a return to the Football League.

It will now be a pivotal summer for the club as they get ready for another attempt at promotion next season.

Elsewhere, there was disappointment in Cup Finals for two of our sides.

Shirebrook went down 3-1 against Thackley in the Baris NCEL League Cup whilst Ollerton were beaten 6-2 by Basford United in the Phoenix Trophies Floodlit Cup.

And, in cricket, Nottinghamshire tasted defeat in their opening Clydesdale Bank 40 match.

In a rain-affected match, they were beaten north of the border by Scotland by 18 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis method.
