Saturday Action: Stags Secure Play-Off Place
Mansfield Town secured their place in the Blue Square Bet Prem play-offs with two games to go with a 3-1 victory at Hayes & Yeading on Saturday afternoon.
The Stags goals came from Anthony Howell, Ross Dyer and Matt Green.
But, although Paul Cox's side have now secured a top five spot, the manager believes they can improve, saying: "It was a strange game, to be honest, with a strange atmosphere.
"We've just crept over the line today. I don't think we were at our best, by any stretch of our imagination.
"But, we've done the job and that's all we asked them to do."
There weren't many goals for the rest of our teams with Alfreton drawing 0-0 with Luton whilst Notts County also played out a scoreless draw at Brentford and that was the same scoreline for Nottingham Forest at home to Blackpool.
Derby went down by a single goal to Middlesbrough, the winner coming late on.
In the local non-leagues, Eastwood were beaten 3-0 at Histon, Hucknall lost 3-1 at Goole and Rainworth were defeated 2-0 at home by Newcastle Town.
Teversal picked up a point at home to Bottesford but there were defeats for Shirebrook and Blackwell.
In rugby union, Mansfield fought out a tough 25-22 victory at home to Longton whilst Nottingham kept their Championship play-off hopes alive with a 38-7 win at Doncaster.
And, in cricket, Derbyshire beat hosts Glamorgan by 130 runs. |
