The Guide 16th – 22nd July 2018
On Wednesday 18th July a group of NSC participants are holding an all day quiz at the Lord Ted Inn near Newark. Quiz sheets will be available throughout the day and cost just a £2 donation. There will be quiz sheets especially made for children too so its fun for all the family whilst waiting for your meal of just enjoying a drink!! All funds raised are being split between Jerry Green Dog Rescue and The John Eastwood Hospice. The same group of students are also taking part in a spinathon on Tuesday 17th July at Quarrydale School again raising funds for the 2 charities.
Weekly Park Run / Walk
There is a free weekly park run that happens every Saturday morning at the Manor Sports & Recreation Ground in Mansfield Woodhouse. The distance covered is 5km and it’s open to everyone and is absolutely free of charge. It takes place every Saturday morning starting at 9am. You can run, jog, walk around or you can even push a pushchair round if you wish. You can also take your dog too as long as he/she is well behaved and kept on a short lead. Adults and children of all ages and abilities are welcome. Please note that children under 11 years of age must be accompanied by an adult who can keep up with them on the run/walk. The park run has been going for some time now and on Saturday 4th August they will be celebrating their 300th run, there will be music, cake and balloons. Please arrive on this day for 8.30am to join in the celebrations, the run will start at 9am as usual.
Pleasley Pit Visitors Centre – Volunteers Needed
Could you spare a few hours each week to help keep the Pleasley Pit Visitors Centre running?? They are mainly looking for help within the cafe whether it is serving customers, washing pots or cooking. They are also looking for other volunteers to assist with the nature reserve and the conservation of the site. There are all kinds of opportunities available. Rainworth Riders – Fundraising Cycle Ride
On Saturday 21st July there will be a group of 16 cyclists setting off on a charity cycle ride. They will be leaving The Venue (formerly The Potters) on Kirklington Road in Rainworth at 9am and heading off to cycle to Skegness. It is all being done to raise funds for Carter Lee’s Journey. Everyone is invited to go along and wish them luck on their journey and make a donation if you can. The Rainworth Riders have been raising money for local charities since 2012. The Local YMCA Charity Need Your Help
The local YMCA charity shop needs donations of all kinds including clothes, furniture, bric-a-brac, dvd’s, books and lots more. They can even collect your donation if you are unable to get it to them. Anything that they can sell on to help them to continue supporting vulnerable members of our local area would be greatly appreciated. Summer Fun Day
On Sunday 22nd June from 10am – 4pm there is a summer fun day taking place at The Lady Margaret Hall in Welbeck (postcode S80 3NB). Everyone is invited to go along, there will be fun for all ages including a dog show, traditional fete games and races, a children’s super hero themed fancy dress competition , crafts, various stalls, food and refreshments too. A whole lot of fun for all the family to enjoy. Admission is £2.50 adult, £1.50 under 12‘s and under 3’s are admitted for free. The day has been organised by the Welbeck WI. Fundraising Family Fun Day
On Sunday 22nd July from 11am – 5pm there is a family fun day taking place at The Debdale Sports & Recreation Club in Mansfield Woodhouse. The day has been organised for the second year running by the McDonald’s restaurant staff near Kingsmill and the staff from the Mansfield Leisure Park restaurant too. The day is in aid of the Ronald McDonald House Charity and is run completely voluntarily by the staff. The charity provides hospital accommodation for children and their families who have to travel miles away from home for life saving hospital treatment. On the day there will be lots happening including various stalls, children’s games and activities plus food and refreshments will be available. Everyone is invited to go along and if you want to find out about holding a stall there on the day call Rachel on 07889 553321.
