Charity Swimathon – Participants Needed
Do you fancy raising some money for a charity, good cause or your local sports club as well as the Mansfield Rotary Club? Well now is your chance! On October 12th & 13th there will be a charity swimathon taking place at Watermeadows in Mansfield. Participants are asked to get people to sponsor them for the number of lengths they swim, their total sponsor money is then split with half going to the Mansfield Rotary Club and the other half can go to a charity, good cause or sports club of their choice. Local Paralympic swimming stars Sam Hynd, Charlotte Henshaw and Elliot Clogg will be there over the 2 days along with some of the Stags players and staff (where available). Life’s A Beach
Continuing through the summer holidays the fabulous beach has returns to Mansfield Market Place. It’s free for young children to enjoy and play on. Its open daily from 10am – 4pm right through until Saturday 24th August. Please note that children playing on the beach must be supervised at all times. McKean’s Family Fun Fairs Are In Town
Continuing through until Sunday 18th August McKean’s Family Fun Fairs will be on the Chesterfield Road Playing Fields next to the Civic Centre in Mansfield. They are open every day from 2.30pm with large, small and traditional fairground rides as well as side stalls and delicious food. Don’t miss happy hour too where it’s only £1 for all rides (except the dodgems and bungee trampolines), it’s from 2.30pm – 3.30pm each day. So, why not go along today??
Missing Piece Child Loss – Weekly Drop In Sessions
Every Thursday from 5pm – 7pm the Missing Piece Child Loss charity hold drop in sessions at the Ladybrook Community Centre (formerly the William Kay Hall) on Ladybrook Lane in Mansfield. Anyone who has suffered the pain of losing a child, whether it is recently or some time ago, can go along for professional and friendly support. The door is open and the help is there, all you have to do is turn up. The Children’s Bereavement Centre is looking for volunteers across our area. They are looking for volunteer bereavement support workers to offer one to one support, counselling and group activities in welcoming and safe venues throughout Nottinghamshire. The minimum age for applicants is 21. They are looking for people from various backgrounds with experience in social work, social care, healthcare or teaching. You must have knowledge of safeguarding children and young people. All they need is a few hours per week of your time to help many youngsters and families dealing with bereavement. Weekly Park Run / Walk
There is a free weekly park run that happens every Saturday morning at the Manor Sports & Recreation Ground in Mansfield Woodhouse. The run is open to everyone and is absolutely free of charge, the distance of the run is 5km. It takes place every Saturday morning starting at 8.45am. You can run, jog, walk around or you can even push a pushchair round if you wish. You can also take your dog too as long as he/she is well behaved and kept on a short lead. Adults and children of all ages and abilities are welcome. Please note that children under 11 years of age must be accompanied by an adult who can keep up with them on the run/walk. Everyone welcome!
On Sunday 18th August from 12pm onwards there is a fundraising event happening at The Forest Town Arena to raise funds and in memory of Liam Peters who was stabbed and killed in Mansfield recently. The funds will go towards Liam’s funeral, to help his very young daughter and towards setting up a knife crime charity in his memory. Entry is a minimum donation of 50p per person. There will be lots happening including a bouncy castle, palm / tarot readings, a cake stall, live music and entertainment, raffle, auction and lots more. Everyone is invited to go along and help the family and friends of Liam raise as much as they can in the young man’s memory.
Vintage Tractor And Engine Working Weekend & Show
From Saturday 24th – Monday 26th August the Nottinghamshire Group of the National Vintage Tractor & Engine Club are holding their annual working weekend and show. This year’s event is happening near Haughton Hall Farm in Retford (DN22 8DG). It’s a fantastic opportunity to spend a day in the countryside with family and friends to celebrate our rural heritage. Highlights of the weekend include an auction, an open air church service, Creswell Colliery Band, vintage ploughing match and a vintage tractor road run. On top of that there will be children’s activities, working demonstrations, food and refreshments plus lots more. Admission is £4 adults, £3 concessions and children under 16 are admitted for free. Party In The Square
On Sunday 25th August from 2pm – 7.30pm Party In The Square is happening in Retford Market Square, it’s the first free music event organised by North Notts Bid. Performances will include local band The Bowkers, former X Factor contestant Jake Quickenden, tribute acts to Little Mix and Freddy Mercury plus lots more to keep you entertained throughout the event. There will also be various food and refreshment stalls. So, why not take along your own deckchair and join in the fun of this fantastic afternoon of entertainment. Sutton Rambling Club – Why Not Join Them For A Walk??
On Sunday 25th August the Sutton Rambling Club will be walking in and around area known as The Roaches in the Peak District. It promises to be a great walk in fantastic company, what more could you ask for?? As always there will be a coach available to take walkers to and from the walk, it picks up at The Staff of Life public house in Sutton in Ashfield at 9.15am followed by a pick up on Stockwell Gate in Mansfield at 9.30am. England Specials End Of Summer Fundraiser
The England Specials are a sports team made up of local youngsters with Down Syndrome and learning disabilities of various kinds and on Friday 30th August from 8pm – late they are holding their end of summer fundraiser at The Towers on Botany Avenue in Mansfield. Family Fun Day
On Sunday 1st September from 10am – 4pm the Bilsthorpe branch of The Royal British Legion are holding a family fun day on the Welfare sports fields on Eakring Road in Bilsthorpe. There will be all kinds of family fun and entertainment throughout the day including 1940’s ambulances, the fire museum team and possibly a current fire engine, a brass band, bouncy castle, a fully licensed bar, archery, various food and refreshment stalls and there will even be a fly past by a magnificent spitfire! It’s a fantastic family day out for all ages to enjoy. Entry is free and parking is available. All funds raised will go to the Royal British Legion. Everyone is welcome to go along.

The jobs fair has been organised by both Futures For Business and Dalmatian Systems. On the evening of Monday 9th September Keith & Sylvia Johnson are inviting people to join them at the Naaz Indian restaurant in Mansfield Woodhouse as part of their fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support. The main part of their fundraising this year is taking part in the Paris-Biarritz Veteran Car Rally in their 1964 Daimler in September but they wanted to raise as much as possible for Macmillan so they are holding this fundraising night too. The menu on the night will feature many special dishes; it will not be the standard menu. There will also be a fundraising competition with various prizes and the evening will have a distinct 1960’s motoring theme. Everyone is invited to join them, it’s only £20 per person!
