Can You Help The Triple S Celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee?

The Triple S Snooker Club at Skegby are looking for various people to help them celebrate the upcoming Queen’s Jubilee. If you are free on the afternoon of Saturday 4th June and can help out why not get in touch? They are looking for craft stalls, tombola stalls, bouncy castle, ice cream van etc etc. There is a small pitch fee to pay but this will be going to charity. They are also looking for a band to play outdoors on the afternoon too. So, if this sounds like something you would like to be part of why not contact them on 01623 515533.

 

Weekly Veterans Group Restarts

The weekly Veterans Group is returning with weekly social meetings being held every Tuesday between from 10am – 12pm starting from Tuesday 17th May onwards. The meetings are being held at MIND at 14 St John Street in Mansfield (entrance at the back of the building). The group has been set up to enable like minded people to get together and discuss any issues they may be having or simply to just go along, have a cuppa and a chat with a fellow veteran. Veterans of all ages are welcome and it’s free of charge to attend.

 

Charity Shop – Bargains For All

Jack Of All Hearts Brain Cancer Fundraising Shop at 10 Handley Arcade in Mansfield is open. They have lots of stock on offer. All ladies clothing on the ground floor will be on offer and the majority of their Nemesis Now goods are also greatly reduced too plus there’s lots of bric-a-brac and other items for sale too as well as men’s clothing and much more. Why not go in and see what bargains you can get?? They are open 10am - 3pm Monday – Saturday apart from Wednesdays when they close at 1pm. All profits go to helping people with brain cancer.

 

Mansfield Parkrun

If you have promised yourself to get a little fitter this year why not join the Mansfield Parkrun which takes place every Saturday morning at 9am at the Manor Recreation Ground in Mansfield Woodhouse. Everyone is welcome to join in, you can walk, jog or run around the 5km route for free! Children and well behaved dogs are welcome, children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult and all dogs must be kept on a short leash. Parkrun asks that anyone wanting to take part arrives before 9am as it starts promptly at 9am. Late arrivals will not be allowed to join due to the registration process. Please note that there are no toilet facilities or changing rooms on site so make sure you arrive ready and raring to go! Spring Fayre

On Saturday 21st May from 12pm – 4pm St Michael’s Church in Pleasley are holding their Spring Fayre. There will be lots of fun for all ages including a Viking re-enactment, a raffle, a fun dog show, children’s games, face painting, a BBQ, cream teas, various stalls. There promises to be lots of fun for all ages to enjoy and everyone is welcome to go along. St Michael’s Church can be found on Church Lane in Pleasley, just off Common Lane (NG19 7TD).

 

Spring Fair

The Portland College Spring Fair returns on Sunday 22nd May from 10am – 4pm. The college campus on the A60 between Ravenshead and Mansfield will be filled with fantastic stalls for all kinds of shopping, food, drinks and lots more. There will be live florist demonstrations as well as interactive children’s entertainment sessions and you can even meet Mickey & Minnie or take part in the Encanto Fiesta. Ticket bookings must be made in advance and can be made via the Portland College Facebook page or on their website at Portland.ac.uk.  

 

Online Book Fair

On Friday 29th May from 12pm onwards the PBFA monthly online book fair is happening. There will be many books on sale including second hand and antiquarian with prices to suit all. You can also find prints, manuscripts, posters and lots more on sale too and you will buy direct from the dealers. Sutton Rambling Club

The Sutton Rambling Club are continuing running their program of rambles throughout 2022. They have many different walks coming up over the next few weeks and months including a walk around Rudyard and The Cloud in Staffordshire on 29th May followed by Manifold Valley on 12th June. They usually go on a ramble every 2 weeks, a full itinerary of all upcoming walks can be found on their website along with details of some special evening walks they have happening throughout the summer months. For the Sunday rambles, a Skills coach sets off from the Staff of Life public house in Sutton in Ashfield at 9.15am then picks up at Bancroft Lane end on Stockwell Gate in Mansfield at 9.30am, it takes all walkers to the starting point and is on hand at the end of the day to bring you back to your original boarding point. The coach fair is £10, there is no need to pre-book your seat you can just turn up on the day but please be sure to bring a face mask for the journey. The club are always happy to welcome new members and offer a great day of healthy exercise along with great company and fabulous scenery. Charity Shop Donations & Volunteers Needed

Our local PDSA charity shop on Low Street in Sutton in Ashfield is in need of donations to help them raise funds to continue their life saving work with animals. They are looking for donations of all kinds including men’s, lady’s and children’s clothing, handbags, bric a brac, CD’s plus any unwanted gifts you may have. They are also on the lookout for new volunteers, they have opportunities available for anyone aged 18 years and over with hours to suit. Not only do you get retail experience which could look great on your CV but you meet new people and make new friends too. If you are interested and want to find out more why not take a look at the PDSA website or give our local store a call on 01623 554244 and ask to speak to the Manager, Julie, or Assistant Manager, Denise. All donations can be dropped off at the store during opening hours.
