The Civic Quarter on Chesterfield Road South in Mansfield has various events happening throughout the coming weeks and months including their fabulous monthly Soul & Motown Night on Saturday 29th September. DJ Dennis Bradbury and guests will be playing some of the best Soul & Motown Classics throughout the evening to get you dancing the night away. Coast To Coast Charity Walk
Between 19th September – 4th October two Mansfield Rotarians will be taking on the challenge of walking to Rotary District Conference 2018 which will be held in Scarborough. They will make their way there via the Coast to Coast trail starting at St Bees in Cumbria. They are doing this to raise funds for the local community. The two Rotarians doing the walk are Mansfield President Denise Starkey and former Mansfield President Cate Hunt. You can sponsor the ladies at their Just Giving page at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/denise-starkey1. You can keep up to date with ladies progress each afternoon around 2.40pm on Mansfield 103.2. On Tuesday 25th September from 10.30am – 12.30pm there is a poetry workshop taking place at Mansfield Central Library. So, if you have always fancied having a go at writing your own poems or are already writing it and wanting to do more this is the workshop for you. Macmillan Coffee Mornings:
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning returns this year on Friday 28th September all in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The following are just a few coffee mornings that are happening locally:
· Infotech based in the Warsop Town Hall are holding a coffee morning from 9am – 12pm. A £2 entry ticket can be bought from Infotech or at The Warsop Town Hall itself which includes a drink and a cake, biscuit or savoury item! Everyone welcome.
· LivePay, Sovereign House on Lower Oakham Road, Mansfield are holding one from 10am – 1pm. Everyone is welcome to call in for a cuppa and a piece of cake or tow!! Mansfield 103.2’s Aaron Outram will be there broadcasting live from the event on the day too.
· Mansfield 103.2’s neighbours, House Of Hair are holding a coffee morning from 10am onwards. They are in the same business centre as Mansfield 103.2 on Samuel Brunts Way. Everyone is welcome to call in for a cuppa and cake.
· The Tap Haus on Leeming Lane North in Mansfield Woodhouse are also having a coffee morning. Their event starts from 10am onwards. Everyone welcome.
· The Linden Social Club on Chesterfield Road South in Mansfield are having a coffee morning on Sunday 30th September from 1.30pm – 3.30pm. Everyone is invited0
Charity Fundraising party Night
On Saturday 29th September from 7pm – 11.30pm there is a fundraising charity party night taking place at the EMVA building on Dallas Street in Mansfield. Everyone is asked to wear either their wedding dress or suit or their very best wedding outfit to the party. You can take your own drinks but food will be provided. Tickets are £10 per person and can be bought by calling 07719 337416 or email firstname.lastname@example.org or in person at Xhibit in Clipstone. All proceeds from the party night are going to The Brain Tumour Charity. On the night there will be a disco, games, a raffle, auction and lots more. Everyone is invited to go along and enjoy the party!!
Sherwood Observatory Open Evening
Sherwood Observatory on Coxmoor Road in Sutton in Ashfield are holding an open evening on Saturday 29th September starting at 6.45pm. Admission is £5 Adults, under 16’s are admitted for just £1 but must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Booking is not required, simply turn up on the night. You can use their powerful telescopes to see the beautiful night sky in all its glory (weather permitting). There will be a number of themed talks titled “We are made of star stuff” at intervals throughout the evening. Onsite parking is available but limited. There are on site toilet facilities too and hot and cold drinks and astronomy themed merchandise will be on sale throughout the evening. The whole site is accessible by disabled visitors. Have You Ever Wanted To Learn To Ballroom Dance??
If you fancy having a go at ballroom dancing now is your chance. There are beginner’s classes for adults being held every Sunday from 6pm – 7pm at The Ravenshead Village Hall. You can come on your own or with a partner. Free refreshments will be available. From Wednesday 3rd – Saturday 6th October The Bolsover Drama Group are proud to present ‘Sweeney Todd’. An infamous tale, Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to 19th century London seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The shows take place at The Assembly Rooms on Hilltop Avenue in Bolsover at 7.15pm each night plus a Saturday matinee at 2pm. New Charity Shop Now Open
A new charity shop has opened in the Handley Arcade in Mansfield selling second hand wedding dresses, bridesmaid’s dresses, prom gowns and general clothing, coats, shoes, bric a brac and a whole lot more. All fund raised from the shop go to helping local people suffering from glioblastoma grade 4 (a certain kind of aggressive brain tumour) which the owners young son passed away from recently. So, if you are looking for that beautiful dress for that all important occasion or day why not pop in and see what you can find?? A lot of the gowns still have their tags on!! The shop is open from 12pm - 3pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
On Saturday 6th October from 10.30am – 11.30am there is a Sew Saturday event happening at the Ladybrook Library in Mansfield. Why not go along to join them as part of the national Sew Saturday event and help make Spirit the Unicorn from material or felt?? It’s a family friendly needle and thread craft session. Local legendary ex- heavyweight boxer, Steve Ward, brings you a night of live boxing not to be missed!! On Friday 12th October he has heavyweight boxers coming from all over the country to take part in this fantastic night of live exciting sport. The event is happening at the John Fretwell Sporting Complex in Sookholme, Mansfield. There will also be a charity sporting memorabilia auction on the night and a cash prize raffle too. On Saturday 13th October there is a fundraising ball taking place at The Hostess Restaurant in Sookholme, Mansfield. The ball is being held to raise funds for a cuddle blanket for use in the community by the Children’s Bereavement Team from the QMC. On the night there will be a 3 course dinner, a silent auction, a raffle, horse racing, dancing and lots more. Pre-dinner drinks are from 6.15pm with dinner being served at 7pm. Bollywood Dance Charity event
On Sunday 14th October there is a Bollywood Dance charity event happening at the Triple S Snooker Club in Skegby. The event is being held to raise money for Mansfield 103.2’s annual Kings Mill Toy Appeal. As well as Bollywood dancing there will also be a delicious Indian hot buffet. There are 2 shows on the day, one from 2pm – 4.30pm and the other is from 5pm – 7.30pm. Tickets are v£25 per person with a donation made to the Toy Appeal from every ticket sold.
