Mansfield Palace Theatre – Upcoming shows

Our fabulous local theatre has some great shows coming up over the coming days and weeks, these include: Tue 26th Oct – Pop Divas Live, Fri 29th Oct – Hocus Pocus, Sat 30th Oct – The Drifters and not forgetting the fantastic panto coming up next month. Marie Curie Needs You!

Marie Curie are looking for volunteers from our local area to join their fundraising team. Could you spare some time to help make sure people get the care and support they need at the end of their lives? The tasks are varied and can include supporting local fundraising groups, administrative tasks, coordinating local collections, distributing collecting boxes and much more. It also gives you the chance to meet new people, have fun and use your skills to make a difference in people’s lives when they need it the most. Men’s Mental Health Support

Every Monday from 8pm – 10pm there is a men’s mental health support session being held at the Debdale Park Sports Club. There is no pressure to stay or to talk and there’s also no fee to go along. The sessions are purely for men to go along and let off some steam whether that’s by joining in a five-a-side match or a football darts match or you can just blast a football around to release some pressure if you wish. You can sit and chat or keep yourself to yourself it’s entirely up to you. The session is there for you to use as you need to and once a month the Muted mental health charity will be there too to offer some professional help and advice. All levels of fitness are welcome and you can literally do as little or as much, both mentally and physically, as you want to. There’s no need to nook simply turn up on the night at some point during the 2 hour time slot.

 

Weekly Veterans Group

There is a new weekly Veteran’s Group social meeting being held every Tuesday between 10am – 12.30pm at MIND on St John Street in Mansfield. The group has been set up to enable like minded people to get together and discuss any issues they may be having or simply to just go along, have a cuppa and a chat with a fellow veteran. Veteran’s of all ages welcome.

 

Weekly Disco Returns

Before the Covid Pandemic began a lovely lady called Sally Rowland used to run a weekly disco at The Towers in Mansfield. The disco was especially for people of all ages with all kinds of physical and learning disabilities to mix and have a great time. Due to high demand her colleague, Phil Bullock, has managed to get the weekly disco up and running again. The Disco will now be every Thursday from 6.30pm at The Towers on Botany Avenue in Mansfield. Online Book Fair

On Friday 29th October from 12noon onwards the PBFA monthly online book fair is happening. There will be many books on sale including second hand and antiquarian with prices to suit all. You can also find prints, manuscripts, posters and lots more on sale too and you will buy direct from the dealers. Mansfield Parkrun Is Back

Continuing every Saturday morning from here onwards the Mansfield Parkrun is back! Based at the Manor Recreation Ground in Mansfield Woodhouse everyone is welcome to walk, jog or run around the 5km route for free! Children and well behaved dogs are welcome, children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult and all dogs must be kept on a short leash. Parkrun asks that anyone wanting to take part arrives before 9am as it starts promptly at 9am. Late arrivals will not be allowed to join. Please note that there are no toilet facilities or changing facilities on site so make sure you arrive ready to go. Sutton Rambling Club Is Back

The Sutton Rambling Club have restarted their program of rambles, they have many different walks coming up over the next few weeks and months including Longshaw on 31st October and Ecclesbourne Valley on 14th November. They usually take a trip out for a ramble every 2 weeks. A Skills coach sets off from the Staff of Life public house in Sutton in Ashfield at 9.15am then makes another pick up at Bancroft Lane end on Stockwell Gate in Mansfield at 9.30am and takes all walkers to the starting point. The coach is on hand at the end of the day to bring you back to your original location. The coach fair is £10, there is no need to pre-book your seat you can just turn up on the day but please be sure to bring a face mask for the journey. The club are always happy to welcome new members and offer a great day of healthy exercise along with great company and fabulous scenery. Monthly Car Boot Sale

On the last Sunday of every month there is a car boot sale happening in the car park of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Albert Street in Mansfield Woodhouse. The sale is open to the public from 9am – 12pm, entrance is just 50p per person. Pitches are £5 per spot and can be booked by calling Sue on 07584 411262, set up starts at 8am. The next boot sale is on 31st October, be quick and book your pitch now before they all go.

 

Charity Shop – Bargains For All

Jack Of All Hearts Brain Cancer fundraising shop at 10 Handley Arcade in Mansfield is open. They have lots of stock on offer. All ladies clothing on the ground floor will be on offer and the majority of their Nemesis Now goods are also greatly reduced too plus there’s lots of bric-a-brac and other items for sale too as well as men’s clothing and much more. Why not go in and see what bargains you can get?? They are open 10am - 3pm Monday – Saturday apart from Wednesdays when they close at 1pm. All profits go to helping people with brain cancer.

 

Volunteers Needed

The Millside Hospital Radio based at Kings Mill Hospital in Sutton in Ashfield are always on the lookout for volunteers. The radio station broadcasts 24 hours per day across the wards of the hospital and they are also online. They provide a wide variety of entertainment for inpatients at the hospital. The station is run completely by volunteers and you could join them. Opportunities include presenting as well as other staff to work behind the scenes. Full training will be given. So, if you fancy getting into radio or just helping out behind the scenes why not contact them to join their fantastic friendly team and give them a helping hand. Positions might not be available just yet due to the Covid pandemic but why not get your name down now to say that as and when they start looking for people, you are interested?
