Zadrozny Trial Pushed Back Again
Campaigners for Jason Zadrozny have spoken out after his trial was put back by nine months. Councillor Zadrozny, a member of Ashfield Independents was arrested in March 2015 - just weeks before the General Election. At the time, Zadrozny was fighting to become a Liberal Democrat MP in Ashfield. He had been charged with various sexual offences but many of them have now been dropped including allegations of rape. Jason will now resume his role as the Leader of the Ashfield Independent Party.
Jason said, "After two days in court for the procedural trial, it has become clear what a complete farce my case is. The police have still not provided a case and the evidence they have provided, amounts to nothing, as we knew it would. On that basis the court have scrapped my trial next week and given the police until October to see if they still want to proceed with a trial in the last week of that month. The ineptitude of the police has meant that it is has been very difficult to prepare a case as we simply don't know what they are going to make up next."
Dave Hennigan, Spokesperson for Mr Zadrozny said, "The police have had 17 months to get their act together and failed to provide evidence to back up their case on each and every occasion. By the time this goes to trial, the incompetent police will have had 26 months to back up allegations Whilst the most serious charges have been dropped including all rape charges in January 2016 - Nottinghamshire Police are continuing this charade in a desperate attempt to save face. Jason has always maintained his innocence against all charges. The way the police have handled this has been nothing short of a disgrace. All leave was cancelled in their press office when Jason was arrested. Now we can't get a straight answer from them. "How the hell can anyone have confidence in local policing when they behave in this corrupt and quite frankly useless manner is beyond me. Jason has always said that he looked forward to his day in court. He looked forward to debunking each and every allegation and to start to rebuild his battered reputation. I very much hope that Jason seeks legal redress from the police in this matter when it is chucked out. Nottinghamshire Police have some very serious questions to answer and we are determined, in supporting Jason that steps are taken to ensure that no-one else goes through what he has gone through. Politics should play no part in policing - this is what happens when it does."
Acting Leader of Ashfield Independent Party, Councillor Tom Hollis said, " It is absolutely outrageous that the police can drag Jason's name through the mud and subsequently drag their heels when it comes to producing any evidence. I was very honoured to have led our group when he stood down to clear his name. Our group are fully supportive of Jason - he's the most talented, capable politician in the East Midlands. We have a crucial set of County Council elections in May and no-one is better qualified to lead our group than Jason. We can't sit around and wait for a trial that's probably not going to happen."
