Work Begins In Clipstone Ahead Of ‘Day Of Action’

An intensive programme of activities to help make Clipstone Cleaner, Safer and Greener has been planned for next Thursday (4 November).

A major clean-up will take place in the village as District Council officers, partners and volunteers tackle issues such as speeding, anti-social behaviour, litter and dog fouling.

Residents are being invited to join in with a community litter pick that will run alongside the District Council’s deep cleaning operations.

Joining the District Council team on the day will be partners including Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue, Clipstone Parish Council, Nottinghamshire Police and Graffiti art specialists Imageskool.

Local schools have also been invited to get involved in a variety of ways, including working with graffiti artist Imageskool who will spend the day creating a mural.

Students have also been getting creative for a competition to design a sign to discourage people from littering in their local area.

Ahead of the day, officers discovered an abandoned vehicle on land to the rear of Sixth Avenue, which was then removed and sent for scrap, using an external contractor.

Whilst the abandoned vehicle was being removed, officers also discovered two more abandoned vehicles which were disguised under foliage.

Preparations have been made to remove the other two abandoned vehicles from the site.

Graffiti has also been cleaned off a dog bin near the site.

The jam-packed ‘to do’ list for the day includes:

  • A deep cleanse with intensive street sweeping
  • Community litter picking Removal of any fly-tipping
  • Tidying parks and open spaces Installing replacement or new litter bins
  • Hosting a safety stall on the high street with free safety items and fire safety advice for residents
  • Providing advice to residents on responsible dog ownership
  • Speed safety checks
  • Tenancy inspections
  • A street surgery with local councillors
  • and the Police Licensing checks

The activity in Clipstone will follow seven highly successful days of action in the last three years, including three in Newark and one each in Ollerton, Boughton, Southwell and Blidworth, which have each been targeted at each area’s specific needs.

Any local resident who would like to get involved should meet at the Clipstone Parish Council office between 9am and 9.15am for a 9.30am briefing.
