Travellers Move Onto Brierley Forest Car Park
The ongoing fight to stop travellers in Huthwaite took a frustrating twist this week as they vacated the Strawberry Bank Allotments site and moved to Brierley Forest Car Park.
County Councillor Tom Hollis has been inundated with complaints and he has already been in touch with Ashfield District Council Chief Executive Robert Mitchell to call for action. Brierley Forest Car Park is owned by ADC. As a result of County Councillor Hollis’ actions – a gating order will be consulted on imminently. Councillor Hollis has requested a high sided gate which will stop caravans from entering the site. This will cause minimal disruption for residents but will stop caravans entering the site.
This was the 2nd time they had chosen Strawberry Bank Allotments on Chesterfield Road, Huthwaite. Tom has now asked Ashfield District Council to prioritise cleaning the site.
Councillor Hollis who spoke up at last week’s County Council against damage and anti-social behaviour caused by travellers said, “I would like to thank the County Council for the way they continue to deal this very difficult issue. They will soon launching a consultation and they are drawing up plans to protect the Strawberry Bank allotment site once and for all.
“It’s hugely frustrating that that the travellers have just moved to another local site. Residents have my assurance that I am dealing with this issue as a priority. I stood up at the County Council last week and called for an urgent review of all potential traveller sites in Ashfield – especially in Huthwaite. I hope that our Councils can continue to work together to ensure that residents don’t have to suffer from the continual problems that these travellers are causing.”
