Travel Information For East Midlands Trains Across Festive Period

East Midlands Trains customers are advised to double check their journeys during the Christmas and New Year period.

Although the vast majority of services are will run as normal, there will be some changes while Network Rail carry out essential engineering work.

Trains between Sheffield, Nottingham and London as well as services between Liverpool, Manchester and Norwich will run on an amended timetable between Saturday 23rd December and Tuesday 2nd January.  There will also be no direct service between Corby and London.

On Christmas Eve, services will also close down earlier than usual ahead of the normal close down on Christmas Day and Boxing Day when no services will run. The last train from London St Pancras on Christmas Eve will be the 20.40 service to Derby.

From 27th December to New Years Day, a slightly amended timetable will be in place with some minor changes to early morning services. Off peak and Super Off Peak ticket restrictions will also be relaxed and a buffet service will be in place for standard and first class customers.

The normal service resumes on 2nd January.

Jake Kelly, Managing Director for East Midlands Trains, said: “The majority of our services across Christmas and New Year will run as normal but it is always worth double checking your journey in advance. Full timetables, advice and guidance are available on our website or in stations.

“We would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.”

Mark Carne, chief executive at Network Rail, said: “Our Railway Upgrade Plan is the biggest in a hundred years. A number of massively complex and hugely challenging projects are on the home straight. These will bring faster journeys, more comfort and greater reliability to millions of people who rely on the railway.

“Christmas is the quietest period for train travel. Our team, therefore, will be out in force throughout the festive period improving the railway.

“While we are keeping 95 percent of the network open, some routes will be affected by our upgrade works. Please make your travel plans before setting off.”

Sheffield to London St Pancras route

From Saturday 23rd December until Tuesday 2nd January, fewer trains will run to/from London St Pancras International, while Network Rail carry out engineering work at Kentish Town. There will also be no direct train service between Corby and London St Pancras with rail replacement buses running between Corby and Kettering.

Liverpool, Nottingham, Norwich route

On Sunday 24th December, train will run between Manchester Piccadilly & Peterborough and between Norwich & Ely.

They will not be calling at Stockport.

Rail replacement buses will operate between Manchester Piccadilly & Warrington and between Peterborough & Norwich.

East Midlands Trains customers can use their ticket to travel between Warrington and Liverpool Lime Street on Transpennine and Northern services.

On Wednesday 27th December,  trains will start and finish at Liverpool South Parkway. Customers to/from Liverpool City Centre should transfer to Merseyrail train services between Liverpool South Parkway and Moorfields.

East Midlands Trains customers can use their East Midlands Trains ticket between Liverpool Parkway & Liverpool City Centre on Merseyrail services.
