Tour Of Britain Needs You!
Sign up now as Tour of Britain volunteer
The Tour of Britain returns on Saturday 8 September and Mansfield District Council is encouraging the community to get involved and make the event a huge success once more.
The stage seven finish requires more stewards than last year as the last 8km have to be traffic and obstacle free.
Up to 100 volunteer ‘Tour Makers’ are needed to give information, direct spectators to viewing and crossing points, as well as supervise road closures.
Volunteers have to be aged 16 or over and be available to help from 10am to 5pm. They can sign up at www.mansfield.gov.uk/TOB. Stewards will be given training and a free T-shirt!
Donate old bikes for displays
British Bike Hire in Mansfield is getting into gear to help ‘upcycle’ old bicycles for displays across the district.
The sales and hire company, based on Hermitage Lane Industrial Estate, has partnered up with the council’s Tour of Britain event team to recycle donated bikes, frames and spares.
Wheels and frames are particularly sought after to create art displays in public spaces, while yellow bikes will be placed along the route.
Donations can be taken to British Bike Hire, 12 Maun Close, Hermitage Lane Mansfield NG18 5GY.
The council will also be using bikes taken to waste and recycling centres.
Cllr Dave Saunders, Portfolio Holder Regeneration and Growth, said: “The Tour of Britain is a great showcasing event for Mansfield and we hope businesses and residents will get behind it.
“Why not dress up your home or business along the route with some bunting, for instance, and if you have an old bike that you were thinking of throwing away, donate it to us instead for our Tour Britain displays.”
