Thousands set to take on 9 Kilometre Clumber Park walk for Alzheimer's research

Around 4,000 people are set to embark on a grueling 9 kilometre 'memory walk' to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's disease.

The event begins at 10 AM tomorrow (Saturday, 1st October) at Clumber Park, and it one of the biggest events of it's type in the country.

Scott Smith, services manager for the Alzheimer's society, said: "What's good for the heart is good for the head, so walking around Clumber Park is good on every day but particularly for the memory walk.

"In Mansfield, we provide 1-to-1 support for somebody who is either worried about their memory, or has a diagnosis of dementia.

"We also run thriving memory cafes and 'singing for the brain' sessions in Mansfield, so the money will go towards those services, and much needed research over the next decade."

Mansfield 103.2's very own Tony Delahunty and Jo Watts will be taking part in the event, and Jo says Dementia is something that has had a drastic effect on her family: " My mother-in-law suffers with dementia, and to look at her nowadays compared to the lady she was a couple of years ago, she's completley changed.

"She gets emotional some days, she gets angry on others, and no two days are the same. It's such a difficult illness to deal with as a carer and not enough is known about it."
