The only man in the cinema!

7th October 2016

The only man in the cinema!

To be honest that’s not quite accurate, I counted about 10 men who’d been dragged along to see Bridget Jones’ Baby at the Mansfield Odeon last weekend.

Actually it’s also unfair of me to say I’d been pressed into watching the movie because I had promised my other half that I would go with her. She’s a massive Bridget Jones fan so we decided it would make for a great ‘date night’ out. Plus into the bargain bagging me some much needed brownie points.

When I booked the tickets I was quite excited but probably for the wrong reason. I’m a massive fan of cinema popcorn and although I got into trouble for buying the biggest box I could when I arrived, I was as happy as Larry munching my way through the 2 hours and 5 minutes.

I need to admit at this point that I’m not new to the Bridget Jones franchise and I did see the previous two movies, but they came out over a decade ago so I did need a little briefing 'catch up' chat with Sarah to bring me up to speed before the lights went down. Hugh Grant isn’t in this movie for instance, I won’t tell you anymore on this front other than to say there was an audible gasp from a healthy majority of the ladies in the cinema as the film started and all was revealed.

So what did I think? Was the brownie point mission worth it?  Well I have to say although it wasn’t ‘laugh out loud’ stuff all the way through it did have its moments and I actually enjoyed it.

It also made my eyes leak a bit too, I’m a sucker when it comes to a good tear jerking moment and I did have to dab my eyes before the lights went up just in case people started pointing (can’t believe I’ve just admitted that here).

In conclusion, I think hardcore fans will be pleased with the new movie and the tale it tells. I’m told the new love interest, the fella from Grey’s Anatomy, is hot. I’m not sure about that myself I thought he looked a bit like a Spitting Image puppet, but I’m not an expert on ‘hot’ men. All I know is that the people coming out of the cinema looked happy and content with their experience so if you’ve not seen it yet I’d say give it a go and if you’re bloke like me you can eat lots of popcorn and hopefully get in the good books for at least a couple of days following the trip.
