The BIG Ashfield Spring Clean

16th May 2018
News, Ashfield

Over the next few weeks Ashfield District Council will be rolling out The BIG Ashfield Spring Clean across the district as part of its commitment to make Ashfield a cleaner place to live, work and visit.

The campaign will see a number of static skips and flying skips distributed across the district as part of a rolling programme. It kicks off on 19th May in Sutton with flying skips on Saturday and 15 static skips placed in key areas across the town from Monday 21st May. It then rolls out the following week in Kirkby & the Rurals and finally in Hucknall.

Residents are invited to have a clear out of their houses and gardens and dispose of their waste in the community skips. The Saturdays will see Flying Skips travel across the towns making scheduled stops for residents to drop off and dispose of their bulky waste items including settees, mattresses and washing machines.

Throughout the campaign residents will be encouraged to take part in community litter picks and Council Officers will be out across the district talking to residents about the different ways they can dispose of their waste including recycling, bulky waste service and local recycling centres. Community Protection Officers will be patrolling town centres ensuring that enforcement action is taken with those caught dropping litter.

Cllr Jason Zadrozny, Leader of Ashfield District Council says “Ashfield District Council’s new administration is serious about tackling national issues such as litter, dog fouling and fly tipping on a local level. The BIG Spring Clean will provide residents with easy access to community skips to dispose of their household waste and flying skips to collect those bulky items that are being stored in garages or even gardens across the district.

“We want the residents of Ashfield to take pride in their communities and this is just the start of a number of initiatives that will be rolled out to tackle issues and inform residents on how they can help Ashfield stay a clean and pleasant place to live. We know how passionate residents are about making Ashfield a cleaner place to live and encourage residents get involved in The BIG Ashfield Spring Clean.”
