Sutton Man Jailed For Almost a Decade

25th July 2018
News, Ashfield

A man has been sentenced to nine years in prison after he committed four violent incidents in the space of 40 minutes in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Aaron Hooton carried out two knife-point robberies at the shops At Last in Leamington Drive and Bargain Booze in Church Street, getting away with energy drinks, cash, vodka and chewing gum.

The 28-year-old of Clare Road in Sutton, then went onto try and assault a woman in car before using a knife to damage a water pipe in the allotments near to Willowbridge Lane.

Officers received these reports between 5.23pm and 6pm as well as a number of reports of a man carrying a knife in the area. Hooton was arrested by armed officers in the Bluebell Wood Way area just after 6pm.

He pleaded guilty to the offences on 13 July and was sentenced yesterday (Tuesday 24 July 2018) at Nottingham Crown Court.

Chris Grundy who investigated the case said: "Hooton's violent spree had a huge impact on a number of people in the Sutton area and I can't thank the response and armed officers enough, who attended and managed to arrest him so quickly. I'm glad that we managed to piece the incidents together and present strong evidence that led to him pleading guilty, and that he is now serving a lengthy sentence behind bars."
