Mansfield Town captain Zander Diamond wants to “repay the Mansfield faithful” for their support but said the team needs their support “more than ever, over the final six games.”
He wants a “big final push from not just the fans but the players and staff too” to finish the season strongly. Diamond said: “We need to reward the fans for their support, starting off with three points this weekend,” when the Stags face Crewe Alexandra at the One Call stadium.
Getting a win against Crewe would be “crucial” and “galvanise” the entire squad. “If we can sort ourselves out there is nobody we fear, we just need to believe we can put the ball in the back of the net,” according to the skipper.
As a group of players he said they “feel the disappointment just as much as the supporters” after no wins in the previous six games, which has seen the Stags slip from fourth to eighth in the table.
Just two points from a playoff spot, Diamond said: “We need to be ruthless in front of goal and capitalise on what have been some good performances from the team.”
Following Monday’s 2-1 defeat to promotion rivals Luton, Diamond believed: “We had enough chances to win two games let alone one and then we got punished for not taking them. I’d be worried if we weren’t creating chances but we are it is just a matter of taking them.”
“Collectively we have to come together and start turning these performances into wins,” said Diamond. The next few weeks will be vital for the Stags to see if they can clinch a spot in the playoffs.
