Stags boss pulls plug on Frecklington deal
Mansfield Town manager Steve Evans says he pulled the plug on completing the first transfer of the January window – deciding against adding Rotherham’s Lee Frecklington to the squad.
The 32 year old front man has been at Rotherham since 2013 and was signed by Steve Evans during his successful tenure at the Millers, however speaking at this morning’s press call – Evans said linking up with Frecklington a second time, was something that came close to happening.
“We'd agreed a fee with Rotherham to buy Lee Frecklington. We went to bed last night wholly satisfied. By nine or ten o'clock this morning, we had a feeling that it wasn't quite right for us. When I explained my thoughts to the chairman and CEO, we unanimously agreed.”
“Our transfer wishlist has not changed. Frecklington was near the top of it but we move on. It was very easy to agree the deal with Rotherham.”
Speaking on outgoings, the Stags boss added that the club had turned down three offers for players over the past few days, but didn’t speculate on who.
