Stags Boss on Play-Off hopes “Players Get You Promoted”
Mansfield Town boss Steve Evans has said the Stags’ play-off hopes lay within the players, as the nine-time promotion winner prepares his side to take on fellow play-off hopefuls Wycombe Wanderers on Good Friday.
The Stags boss, whose won promotion with the likes of Crawley and Rotherham United, says “It’s players who get you promoted” ahead of Friday’s trip to Wycombe, the side who sit a point above the Stags in 11th and have dropped out of the play-off zone in recent weeks.
Evans says “We should never forget that what gets you promotion is footballers – players get you promoted. We’ve let ourselves down in recent weeks just by either missing a chance or by not doing something properly defensively, in both boxes – its probably just not been at the top end of the scale.”
“Box to box we’ve been the best team in most of the games we’ve played, probably with the exception of Doncaster.”
“We need to go there [Wycombe] and we need to have a real resolution about our performance – take chances when they come and do our job all over the pitch and if we do that, we’ll be in the game. It’s a great game to be involved him, followed of course by Luton Town coming here [The One Call Stadium] on Monday – it’s a fantastic Easter Weekend of football.”
The Stags currently occupy 13th place on 58 points, needing to close the gap on 7th placed Carlise United on 62points with 15 points to play for.
