SPORTSBEAT PREVIEW | Wycombe Stand In The Way Of Making Stags’ Wembley Dream One Step Closer

Fellow league two side Wycombe Wanderers stand in the way of making a trip to Wembley Stadium one step closer for Mansfield Town, as the two in-form sides go head to head in the quarter final of the Checkatrade Trophy this evening.

The Stags are unbeaten since New Year’s Eve whilst Wycombe are unbeaten in their last 15 games, a run stretching back to November; however they are without a win in three games with three consecutive draws – and with a tasty FA Cup trip to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, Wycombe’s concentration is likely to be elsewhere.

The two sides met earlier in the season at The One Call Stadium playing out a 1-1 draw, but this evening there must be a winner, who will progress to the semi-final and as such, put themselves one win from a Wembley final.

Stags boss Steve Evans however refuses to look ahead and allow his side to be complacent ““I only look at it as there’s two teams in it at the minute – there’s us and Wycombe. I don’t think we can affect whatever happens with the other six teams, but we can affect what happens tomorrow night and we can get ourselves in the draw for the semi-finals.”

“We have to earn that; no-one’s going to give us that, no-one’s going to give Wycombe it. It’s a real tough game for us. We’re playing a team in League Two who are higher up in the table than us by some way, that are 15 games unbeaten and are playing with real confidence.”
