SPORTSBEAT | Bumper Schedule As Transfer Window Opening Looms

22nd December 2016

SPORTSBEAT | Bumper Schedule As Transfer Window Opening Looms

It’s a busy festive period for our local footballing sides, as the opening of the January transfer window draws closer and the likes of Mansfield Town and Nottingham Forest can strengthen their squads.

In League Two, Mansfield Town are expected to see a number of new additions once the window opens as Steve Evans looks to guide the Stags into play-off contention. However with two games to go before deals can be secured, the 54 year old says the current squad, still have the opportunity to keep their shirt.

“I think now we’re getting very close to decisions being made. Of course, football is the type of match where someone on Boxing Day or someone on New Year’s Eve can change that whole picture,”

“We’ve worked very closely with the players, almost living and breathing with them over the four weeks, so from that point of view, I think we’re very close on decisions.”

In the Sky Bet Championship, Nottingham Forest are in danger of fighting the wrong sort of battle, as they enter the Christmas and New Year period just six points from danger.

Teenage defender Joe Worrall said that after recent results, they players only have themselves to blame ““It’s disappointing as we have put ourselves into a bit of a scrap at the bottom of the table and they have come in and out-played us. I think as a collective we didn’t back each other up enough, there were individual mistakes and it comes down to determination at the end of the day.”
