So, Mansfield Town boss Adam Murray just missed out
So, Mansfield Town boss Adam Murray just missed out on winning the August Manager of the Month award for League Two.
I don't think many will complain that Jim Bentley got it for his excellent start with Morecambe.
But, Murray couldn't have been too far behind in the thoughts of the adjudicating panel.
Ten points from the opening five games when you consider who the Stags had to face is an excellent return by anyone's standards.
And, although September began with an instantly forgettable goalless draw at home to Cambridge, it's clear that the side has made massive strides from last season.
The entertainment factor at home games – like last season – may be clouding some fans' views but anyone who saw the matches at Newport and Leyton Orient will have been left impressed with what they saw.
It will be interesting to see what the points return will be from the rest of this month's matches.
Saturday's home game with Barnet will be tough, as it always is against Martin Allen sides, and that's followed by a trip to Hartlepool and then a lunchtime kick-off at home to a Grimsby side still buzzing with their return to the Football League.
A midweek trip to Accrington then completes September so I would be delighted with at least seven points from those matches to keep the Stags in the top seven of the table.
